SOURCE: oil leak

This is a maddening problem if you don't know what's going on. If it's like my 92 isuzu pickup with 2.3 litre engine, it's a vent line coming out of the fuel pump which will spit oil out. I had a very hard time figuring out why but finally read that there is a galley in the block where oil runs back to the oil pan. If it gets clogged, oil will come out the vent line of the fuel pump. I even took my head off and tried blowing compressed air and sticking various wires through the block holes near where the fuel pump mounts. Nothing did any good and I was sick of the leaking oil and having to add oil so I bought several feet of oil resistant hose at autozone and routed it from the vent line, back over the engine, and into the dipstick tube. This worked like a champ. No more leaking oil. No more adding oil. Make sure you trim the outside of the hose where it goes into the dipstick with a razor knife or similar, so it will fit tightly. Make real sure you use oil resistant hose or it will break down and get into your oil. Not good. Then use a tie wrap to secure the hose to something else like the brake vacuum hose to keep it in place. I keep my dipstick behind the seat and make sure it's cleaned before and after checking my oil. This truck doesn't use any oil to speak of now and I wish I'd thought of this sooner. Short of removing the engine and having the block flushed and cleaned I don't know what else would have fixed this problem.

Someone else said to replace the fuel pump to fix this problem. I tried that. It did not work. It still spat oil out the vent tube to the tune of about one quart every 150 miles.

I also replaced all the engine seals and gaskets. Front and rear main seals too which were also leaking. So now my oil leaks are a thing of the past. Good luck!

either a leaky head gasket or someone put oil in the overflow, it happens, clean it out drain the coolant from the entire system and refill with new long life antifreeze, also add a can of good radiator sealer.

Here is the way to find out pull your spark plug put out and bring each cylinder tdc and put 50 psi air in that cylinder remove radiator cap and check for bubbles do this to all cylinders,if no bubbles I would be checking to see if that engine has a oil cooler that could leak oil into your coolant,some mercededs had oil cooler,

well if the rad cap is damaged in any way the pressure in the rad drops its like a pressure cooker, if you open it fast it boils up on you,,,big time! so there may just be a small leak there,,its well worth having a good look at this part first pluss any other pipes and joints if all is good it could be the head gasket starting to go this can be tested for with a sniffer test
to find out if there are any hydrocarbons in the water in the rad,, its an easy test,, if there are any the head gasket is going or gone,

If you car is overheating often and white smoke come out the tail pipe when running, good chance it is. Easiest way it to check is the fluid in the radiator - look for oil floating on the top. If your cooling reservoir (off white container connected by a smaller black hose to the radiator) has fluid in it, check it or you can open the radiator cap (only when the engine is cool - hasn't been running - don't touch it until it's sat for a few hours if you used it) and use a turkey baster or similar to pull some fluid out. If you see some oil floating, it's most likely a head gasket.

Check up the hydraulic power steering pump.
See picture below for 1.6, 1.8 liters Audi (4 cyl.) engines:

If you find leaks and noise when runing, the hydraulic vane type pump is damaged. The pump inputs air inside and mix air with oil resulting foam. Therefore fluid volume inside steering instalation rises. Then pressure overflows oil from the reservoir. You need repair or replace hydraulic vane type steering pump.

If you can't keep fluid in the overflow you either have an external leak, you should see fluid on the ground after stopping, if no fluid is apparent you have an internal engine leak and need a mechanic to determine the cause and repair.

When engine completely cools remove coolant from overflow reservoir to the cold mark on the reservoir which is the lowest mark on reservoir. If you continue to loose coolant you may have busted block.

The system is supposed to be able to contain the overflow then pull the extra coolant back into the radiator when needed.

WHILE DOING AN ENGINE OIL CHANGE I DRAINED THE AUTO TRANS FLUID BY MISTAKE. HOW DO I RE'FILL THE TRANS ?


Fluid Level Checking & Filling To Check:
  1. Connect a scan tool to the vehicle to read ATF temperature. ATF checking temperature should be 95° - 113°F (35° - 45°C).
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Place a drain pan under the transmission.
  5. Allow the ATF temperature to reach 95° - 113°F (35° - 45°C). Automatic transmission fluid inspection plug vw-07-00-7273.gif

  6. Remove the inspection plug from the transmission housing. Fluid is pipe will run out. If fluid continues to drip out, no additional fluid is needed. If only the fluid in the overflow pipe runs out, additional fluid is needed.
To Fill:
Automatic transmission fluid filler pipe vw-07-00-7274.gif

  1. Pry the cap from the filler pipe. The cap locking device will be destroyed during removal.
  2. Pull the plug from the filler pipe.
  3. Add fluid slowly with VAG 1924 or equivalent until fluid runs out of the inspection hole. Install the inspection hole plug.
  4. Install the plug in the filler pipe and secure with a new cap.

Check up the hydraulic power steering pump.

Coolant system problems


engine cooling should be a close circuit. there should have not over flow. however, the is a over flow container in the from of the car to catch any overflow.
the little tube may be the overflow tube that suppose to go to the overflow container.

Trans fluid overflow in filler pipe after 3 month winter layoff


simple the oil seal between the transfer gearbox and the main gearbox has gone the oil is flowing through from transfer box there is a level plug on the side of the transfer box I bet if you check there is very little oil in the transfer box get it sorted before the transfer box siezes up through lack of oil
