Question about Cars & Trucks

I have an 1998 Audi A4 2.4 V6...I have noticed it is running rough and then when driving for a couple of min it seems to pick back up, i did notice today that there was smoke coming out of the grill and the smoke was coming from the back of the engine, I also noticed that smoke, clear smoke was coming out of the exhaust two min after turning the engine off, I did go through a deep ford the other day and I am thinking water in the exhaust but I am not sure if it is that.

I also have no idea why the smoke appeared off the engine but since changing it, there has been none.

After looking it all over it turned out to be the ignition pack, number two on the left bank was not firing at all, until the engine got warm and it started firing again, I have put on a new pack and it is running fine now....thanks for the help guys.

SOURCE: 1999 S10 Blazer 2WD 4.3L V6. Starts hard, idles rough.

you have a single injector under the intake plenum it has 6 branching fuel leads off of this.A very common problem is the regulator attached to this and it leak off fuel which falls into the intake .causing this problem. it needs to be replaced .i have done at least 80 of these in my career.this will fix your problem.thanks for choosing fix ya

1998 Dodge 1500 5.9L, running rough, no power, does not do this all the time..

I had a similar problem on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 engine.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary except that occasionally the engine would run rough. Another seemingly unrelated symptom was that when shifting out of Park the transmission would sometimes jolt.

Turns out that I had a bearing on the serpentine belt tensioner that was freezing up. My belt broke and while I was changing the belt the pully on the tensioner fell into my hand. The bearing had seized and the plastic hub had disintegrated. After getting the new tensioner and belt. I noticed that the rough engine and the hard shifting transmission problems have gone away.

Seems that the engine was having to work harder to overcome the bad bearing.

Another cause of rough engines comes from dirty fuel injectors. The best solution I have run across is Chevron's Techron fuel additive. I had a honda Prelude that had a rough running engine. The Honda technician advised me to start adding Techron when I fill up. Worked like a charm. After the second tank I had no more problems. I have tried other fuel additives over the years, but Techron seems to be the best.

Also be sure to change your fuel filter. A dirty fuel filter will cause a noticeable drop in power.

When idling at a standstill engine seems to run rough and seem like it will die but it doesn't. When driving there is a noticeable lagging feel to the drive as if the timing were slightly retarded. Like it...

Sounds like a misfire in a cylinder. Check plugs for carbon build up. If carbon on plug, there's a good chance that you will need to replace the fuel injector. Start with checking plugs and then O2 sensor(s). This is steps beyond typical tune-up check. It's especially helpful if you can get a code. AutoZone and KwikLube will run diagnostics for free.

I would make sure the Termostat u instaled is correct. Also have the Coolant system flushed and replaced. The gauge may not be reading properly which could be the sending unit. You have already replaced the main components that fail. Hope this helps and have a great day.

Multiple misfire codes tend to indicate a problem with the coil packs - it's a fairly common problem with the A4, moreso on the 1.8T than the 2.8 V6, but failing coil packs are never a surprise on an A4.
