Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

My 1997 Expedition Eddie Bauer is have major electrical problems after a windshield water leak on the driver side of the vehicle which is directly over the fuse box area, When I try to start My SUV the power from the ignition bypasses the starter and my door locks start locking and unlocking every time I turn the key in the ignition then I can hear one beep noise coming from the area under the dashboard. I am assuming my fuse box and GEM are damaged from years five years of water damage caused by the driver side windshield rain water leak. So I wait for around 20 minutes then try to start my the SUV and it starts. this problem has been happening for over a year. Now the problem is happening more often and the wait time is longer and longer leaving my stranded for hours at a time especially on a day like today in Los Angeles California and as I type this SOS it is raining and my SUV is across town because when it rains the SUV will not start at all do to the same problem. What is going on here?.

I repaired the problem with ford expedition 5.4 liter engine. In the engine compartment area located next to the battery fuse box on the passenger side of the engine compartment there is a plastic box that cover's the starter solenoid and the main battery large fuse's. It is the area in the engine compartment on the firewall directly on the right side of the battery but back on the fire wall. that defective starter solenoid was the cause of all the electical problem's on my Expedition. Therefore Problem self-solved.

SOURCE: Rain sometimes causes electrical problems

Find the source of the leak and fix that. Once water gets into the fuse box it will short circuit the componets such as fuses and cause all kinds of problems.

Try changing the spark plug wires. With age they tend to build up too much resistance & the spark at the plugs become weak. If the spark plugs haven't been changed, have this done because with every 1000 miles the gap widens 1/ thousandth of an inch altering engine timing & preformance. Old spark plugs make for bad starting. As far as the leak, do you have any rusting around the front window frame. If yes, have it repaired by removing the window & accessing the damage. Often the window seal is worn with age & the like. You could have someone with a garden hose pour water on the car til the leak is recognised by looking under the dash. It may also be coming from a rusted floor board. Check under the Jimmy to see if there are any holes obvious. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Heated seats not working.

You should start by checking your fuses under the dash. Should be a small panel under the dash or on the side of it. The panel has a legend which shows the position and title of each fuse.
