SOURCE: Problems with Gearshift 2004 Lincoln Navigator
Turn the key forward a notch then it should come out. If you are turning the key all the way off it enables the accessories (radio etc), locks the key in the ignition and disables the gear shifter.
If thats not the case then there is a button to be depressed so that the key can turn anticlockwise>off another click and the key can be removed.
It'll be one or the other....faulty ignition lock is the only other diagnosis

under the dash, above the break peddle are two switches, check for adjustment of those switches . one is for the break lights and another one is for the solenoid what is locking your shifter.

Hi Mike
Try lightly tapping the starter with a spanner and at the same time turning the key to start, if it starts you need the starter overhauled.

SOURCE: 1997 Lincoln Towncar. Shifter stuck in park
There is a switch mounted on the arm of the brake pedal (under a plastic cover held on with 3 plastic push-pins). There is an electical connection attached to this switch. In my case one of the wires had broken and was not supplying electricity to the switch. By fixing the broken wire it allowed the shifter to properly move and got the brake lights working again.

It has to be under warranty....Call the dealer and have them pick it up....
Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities.
It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then
it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure
or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty
ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.
To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
