Question about Mercedes-Benz Cars & Trucks

Open Question

My w203 c180 switches off after driving on trafic on hot sunny day in Botswana. i bought the used car in japan in 2010. the problem is not there in winter.

When i am driving on a highway in hot temperatures the problem will not occur until the revs are reduced and/ or driving on trafic, the vehicle will cut engine or stall. when you start it again it will run for sometime and cut again. this nomarly happen when temperature goes above 33 to 40 degrees or the car was parked in the sun. are there any settings to be done since the car was used in Japan before i bought it. i am residing in Botswana, Southren Africa

SOURCE: 1993 mercedes sl300 convertable

Hi,
The early 300 SL suffered from dodgy HT leads and spark plugs if not regularly maintained, the problem with Mercedes Benz though is that the cars have so many features that it is almost impossible to diagnose without seeing the car. Some things to try (in this order) are : - Spark plugs, Ht leads, remove and clean Distributer Cap, replacement of HFM sensor (common fault), if none of these help then faults have been known in throttle valves and fuel pumps/filters

Happy fault finding

SOURCE: 1996 Camry 100 km stalling

This sounds like a common Camry problem. After driving my vehicle for about 20 minutes in highway traffic, the vehicle has difficulty idling when I slow down behind another car or turn a corner. This quickly deteriorates and then the car actually stalls when I slow right down or
Then usually the car starts again right away, but when I slow down again, stalls. Then when I start it up again, usually in traffic, I can’t get the shift into Drive. If I allow it to sit engine off for 3 – 5 minutes, it starts again, the shift can slide into shift, and the car goess off again, like nothing happened.

SOURCE: Engine stops while driving & engine revs high between gear change

hi i am dieter
im dave

here is something to try
keep some cold water with you and the next time it happens very quickly get out and pour the water on the crankshaft sensor then restart. If it starts right away without the usual two minutes than you will need to change this sensor. The sensor is easy to find you will see a wiring harness around the crankshaft pulley(the large one at the bottom the basically runs all your accessories like the p/s pump, alternator, water pump). Try to famaliarize yourself as to the location of the sensor first so that you can try to restart it within about 30 seconds.

You may need a mechanic for this.
In most cases the radiator fan is not pulling enough air thru the condenser when you are not moving. Either the fan is not running or there is a blockage.

The fan is on because the wire is cut. If the ecu does not detect a signal from the fan switch it will default as on. Replace the wire and fan temperature switch and all will be ok

Uneven idling on start up. Voltage fluctuates between 11,4 to 12,4 and then stabilise at 13,4 at which idle also stabilize. Gives esp error. C180 W203.

It could be a voltage regulator problem. or even a alternator problem when the volts drop the car looses electrical current causing the rough idle. try replacing alternator.

Groaning noise when turning steering wheel , even when stationary, i checked level of power steering fluid and it was fine. C180 W203

chances are the power steering pump has seen better days and may need replacement. i dont recomend any additives in these systems. if its making noise, there isnt really alot you can do. dont replace the gear box unless there are leaks.
