If it won't shift down to 1st when you come to a stop but you can shift it down manually its probably the tranny computer located under the carpet on the frnt passenger side floor. 1991- 1993 had weak electronics in the computers go to a junkyard and get a new one. if not the right symptom refer to comment 1

SOURCE: My Honda will not shift

The shift solenoids, mounted on the front, outside of the transmission, are bad or need cleaning.

Sounds like you have a transmission internal problem> I would sugest that you take it to a transmission tech for the diagnosis.

SOURCE: 2001 honda crv d light flashing won't go into 3rd gear

The light is flashing to alert you to the fact that the transmission control module has detected a fault in the operation of the transmission. You now need that fault ID-ed by a shop and repaired.

I have a Honda crv 2000 it starts gears shift but won't move

If an automatic, check your fluid level. Then check the lower gear selector solenoid pair, It is easy to remove and clean. Front right passengers side of automatic tranny, 96 to 2002 Civics and Accords and CRV. Whack it on its face a few times and blow it out with a compressor. Use a pencil and a rag to keep from losing all your fluid when you take it off. Check the sound of the click with a 12 volt battery. Sometimes the solenoids get stuck if the fluid gets varnished or if it sits too long. The upper solenoid pair is not so touchy. Bottom solenoid will sometimes prevent starting out in first and will go straight to 2nd or 3rd from start. Also some creep in neutral.

Honda crv won't shift into gear

If you are talking about moving the console shifter, step on the brake first. If you are talking about a n issue where it is in gear and it is an automatic, check your fluid level. Then check solenoid wiring connectors and then the lower gear selector solenoid pair, It is easy to remove and clean. It doesn't move much when operational. A paper clip will move a solenoid plunger 1/8th inch.

Honda CRV won't to go into gear

If an automatic, put your foot on the brake first of course. If it won;t go into gear although in drive, check the lower gear selector solenoid pair, It is easy to remove and clean. It is under a metal cap with 3 10mm bolts. Front right passengers side of automatic tranny, 96 to 2002 Civics and Accords and CRV. Whack it on its face a few times and blow it out with a compressor. Gear lever loose & wont engage in 06 renault magane manual

Sounds to me that your cable is broke therefor not putting the car in gear. This can happen real easy. Have someone move the shifter for you and look at the side of your trans and see it the cable is moving. If not then you can do a visible inspection of it and see if it is broke.

Cant get golf in 1st gear

If you'd said 1st and reverse I would have said clutch. First check your gear sgift rod for aligbnment. If it is out when you push the gear lever left to engage 1st your selector might be somewhere between 1st and 2nd. Next check all the linkage bushes for wear. Those also cause misalignment. Last thing to check is the gearbox itself for synchromesh damage.

You probably need a transmission pro to diagnose it properly, but it doesn't sound good. Was the original fluid you drained dirty brown? And did you see significant amounts of metal shavings in the transmission pan? The severe discoloration of the fluid is due to the clutch pack material wearing off and dispersed throughout the fluid. If the fluid smelled burnt, it is almost certain the transaxle is toast.

I have a 2003 vw golf gt tdi 130 6 speed and have lost 1st and 2nd gear. I have checked the cables and they are working fine, the selector is moving but the gears are not engageing.

CHECK CLUTCH CABLE! IF CABLES IS LOOSE YOU COULD HARDLY ENGAGE 1ST AND 2ND GEAR.
IF YOUR CAR IS USING CLUTCH CABLE, ADJUST IT
IF IT USES FLUID, CHECK THE RUBBER CAPS.
