If it won't shift down to 1st when you come to a stop but you can shift it down manually its probably the tranny computer located under the carpet on the frnt passenger side floor. 1991- 1993 had weak electronics in the computers go to a junkyard and get a new one. if not the right symptom refer to comment 1

Sounds like you have a transmission internal problem> I would sugest that you take it to a transmission tech for the diagnosis.

The light is flashing to alert you to the fact that the transmission control module has detected a fault in the operation of the transmission. You now need that fault ID-ed by a shop and repaired.
