1991 tercel rough run and smoke from under hood at times
I have a 1991 tercel that sometimes runs rough and white smoke comes out from under the hood. I have replaced the distributor cap and rotor, wires and plugs but it still does it. It happens most when you first start it up and when you are idling at a light. It seems to go away when the rpms are higher.

When you say "sometimes", whad do you mean exactly? When cold? When warm? When accellerating?
White exhaust smoke (which has a sweet smell) is often an indication of a blown head gasket. You'll need a compression test or test the antifreeze against exhaust gas contamination. Although the compression test will tell you more about the contition of the head gasket.
Where exactly does the white smoke come from under the hood? Maybe there's a puncture somewhere on the radiator hose or heater hose and the antifreeze sprays on the exhaust? Please check. There still is a tiny bit of hope it's not the gasket...
Regarding 2001 audi a6 quattro 2.7t....i was driving to work the car was fine then white smoke starting coming from under the hood and tail pipe. i stopped veilce and alot of oil was dripping from front of car. I towed it home and i looked under the hood and there was oil from valve cover gasket. i let the car sit for a few days, had it running again for a good hour and no white smoke was coming out. I removed the valve cover and gaskets are all bad. i want to know can the valve cover gasket leak cause the white smoke to come from exhaust pipe?
It could be, but you had a mechanic working on it right? Ignition control box? does it run better now?
where is the smoke coming from, exhaust pipe or under the hood? Did the mechanic check the fuel pressure and replace the fuel filter? Did they check for vacuum leaks? These should be the first thing they need to check.
there might be a problem in your fuel line. try buying a can of sea foam [Red and white bottle.Available at any auto place. Around $9]. pouring about half in the tank and the other half thru a line in your brake booster or another vacuum line. the line will be under the hood to the very top right. it should be black, round, and two lines coming out of it. do this with the car running so maybe have someone else hold the gas to about 1500 RPM. Slowly drip the sea foam in until it almost dies then put your thumb on the line to keep it running. keep doing that until the can is almost or fully empty. Let the car sit for about 5 mionutes then start the car and keep the RPMs to about 2 grand. There will be smoke fromt the exhaust SO DONT WORRY! Just keep on the gas until the smokes clears. If that doesnt help let me know!
