Question about 1990 Plymouth Laser
I have a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS 2WD with 2.0 automatic. I stopped at a traffic light and when the light turned green the car seemed to have ''popped'' in Neutral, but the thing was that it was in drive. I stopped and none of the gears did anything, and all it did was rev up when I pressed the gas. There was no abnormal noises or anything. When I put into park, it would lock the wheels from turning, but in any other select it won't engage. The output shafts are connected and the cable does operate the shifter with locking detents.
Sounds like you ran it too low on transmission fluid and may have fried your internal clutches.
I had this happen once and trust me you never do it twice.
Check the fluid and see if it has a 'burnt' smell to it.
