I have already replaced hose and pads, but still binds.

Preliminaries Do 1 wheel at a time Use a jackstand on the wheel you are working on (safety First) Remove the tire on the selected wheel
The Brake caliper is usually held on by 2 bolts. Some of the bolts are Allen wrench type, usually about ¼ inch or 5/16 inch. Remove and the complete brake caliper can be lifted off the rotor. The pads can now be removed. Before installing the new pads you must first return the pad piston to their original position in the caliper. Open the hood of the engine compartment and remove the cover on the master cylinder. This allow the brake fluid to be returned to the master cylinder. To return the pad piston to the original position you will need a C clamp and a flat piece of metal like a small flat file. Put the flat piece of metal on the piston and use the C clamp to put pressure on the piston. Tighten the C clamp slowly and you will see the piston slowly retract into the caliper body. Now you can insert the new pads into the caliper. Mount the caliper over the rotor and reinstall the 2 bolts.

Straight forward job. Remove wheels, remove 2 caliper bolts per wheel, check bolts,and bushings for wear/corrosion and lubricate, remove calipers, remove brake pads, push caliper pistons into calipers, replace anti-rattle clips, put new pads in, put caliper and bolts in, put wheels on. Start truck and press brake pedal several times to take up slack and you're done.

first loosen the road wheel nuts. then jack it up. then remove the road wheel. then turn the wheel out (brake side) get a g clamp put one end on the caliber and the other on the outside pad and wind nice and slowly then remove the two bolts holding the caliber and put aside DONOT TOUCH THE BLEEDING NIPPLE OR REMOVE ANY OF THE RUBBER HOSES ON THE BRAKE LINES open the reserveor (BRAKE FLUID CAP) the disk (rotor) look for a retaing screw on it and remove it some cars havem some dont then tap the disk off asemably is the reverse of removel

It sounds like the caliper slides themselves are sticking, remove your caliper and check that the caliper slides are lubricated and that the caliper slides easily on them

Probably need to replace the brake hoses. They deteriorate on the inside and clog up. Not letting the calipers to fully release.

I'm going to guess that you are complaining about a brake caliper failing to release the rotor when you take your foot off the brake pedal. I had this problem with my 1989 Chev Cheyenne 1/2 Ton Pickup. The brake would lock down and the wheel would become quite warm. I replaced the caliper unit, but that didn't solve the problem. The problem turned out to be a bad flexible brake hose at that wheel. Incredibly, these hoses wear out and are susceptible to collapsing internally causing a restriction in the fluid flow. The hose looked fine from the outside. Once a put a new one on, problem solved! This might be your problem, too.

Other causes could be a malfunctioning proportioning valve, a malfunctioning power brake booster unit, a binding brake pedal, binding brake pads or a sticking piston in the caliper.

Disk brake pad wear uneven


if the pads are not moving free they would wear uneven if they move then check the pistons on the calipers for movement if there not binding the brake hoses could be bad

The brake hose is clogged. When under pressure from applying breaks, the piston is forced tight to the rotor. When released the fluid will not return through the hose because there is no real pressure. Replace the hose.

Callipers binding


No reason for that, other than lack of inspection
& replacement of parts,as preventative maintenance

If you replaced the calipers & rubber brake hose & got rid of all
rust, so the cailpers & pads slide & lubed the same, you would
be okey

You didn't tell us how old the vehicle is,so I assume 10 years
or more.

No one ever does brake work once a year as required,only
break down repairs

How can I change the rotors and brakes on a 2006 Cadillac?


Front brake
Step 1: Identify Front Disc Brake Components

Front Wheel Drive Brake Assembly
Most front disc brake components include: brake rotor, brake pads, brake caliper, caliper mount and brake flex hose. Brake service usual occurs between 20,000 and 40,000 miles depending on driver habits, road conditions and brake pad/ rotor materials used.
Step 2: Remove Brake Caliper to Replace Pads

Locate primary caliper mounting bolts; apply wrench pressure counter-clockwise (When looking at the head of the bolt) to remove the bolts, upper and lower. Make sure the bolt threads are in good shape and replace if necessary.
Step 3: Remove Front Brake Caliper

After removing the primary caliper mounting bolts lift the brake caliper off of the rotor and then tie or secure to the side, being careful not to bend or kink the brake caliper flex hose. Thoroughly inspect brake caliper and brake hoses for leakage, cracks or chaffing and replace as needed. Next remove the brake pads (If not mounted in the caliper) and secondary caliper mounting bolts. Notice how great protective gloves work, most technicians use them on the job today.
Step 4: Remove Brake Pads

Once the brake pads have been removed, make sure if there is anti rattle hardware to transfer to the new brake pads. Some brake pad manufacturers will include the proper lube (Caliper slides) and anti-rattle hardware to ensure proper performance of their product.
Step 5: Remove Caliper Mount

Finish removing secondary caliper mount bolts and remove caliper mount. Note: clean and lube caliper slides and pad friction surfaces of all foreign material or build-up.
Step 6: Remove Brake Rotor

With the caliper mount out of the way you can now remove the brake rotor. Sometimes it can get stuck so you may need to tap it with a hammer or use penetrating oil to free it up. Some manufacturers use small screws to hold the rotor on as well. Clean and inspect wheel studs, replace if any are damaged. Also clean bearing hub rotor mount surface to ensure the proper mounting of the new brake rotor. Inspect the ABS sensor wheel for cracks or damage and replace as needed.
Step 7: Depressing the Brake Caliper

Resetting Brake Caliper
To install the new brake pads you must retract the brake caliper piston. Remove the master cylinder lid or open the brake caliper bleeder screw to allow excess brake fluid to be released if necessary. Install C clamp tool and gently tighten clamp until caliper piston is fully depressed. Note: use old brake pad to protect the caliper piston. Close the bleeders once the piston is retracted completely
Step 8: Installing New Brake Rotor

Install new brake rotor, the new rotor is manufactured with a protective film over the rotor to keep it from rusting, remove protective film with brake cleaner before installing; also after the brake job is complete you may experience a small amount of smoke from the rotor when first used. This is normal and will go away after the first couple of uses.
Step 9: Installing New Front Brake Pads

Reinstall the front brake caliper mount, and then install front brake pads. Make sure the pads are seated properly in the caliper mount; it must be a close fit to work properly..
Step 10: Reinstall Front Brake Caliper

Re-Install front Bake Caliper
Reinstall front brake caliper and reinstall caliper-mounting bolts, recheck all mounts and mounting bolts. Check the caliper slides to be sure there is no bind and that the caliper moves freely back and forth on the caliper slides. Bleed brake system per manufacturer's specifications to relieve any air trapped in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly, repeat until normal brake pedal operation resumes, this operation is forcing the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors.

2001 gmc sierra 1500. The front brakes drag. I have replaced pads, calipers and hoses. Resevoir is full and gasket on cap is new. Can the brakes be adjusted?


No, there is no adjustment aside from being certain calipers are not binding. Be sure the M/C is fully releasing.

try holding the brake pedal down overnight with a broom jammed into the seat ?? if that doiesnt work then bleed the brakes and if still no joy then ask a local mechanic to diagnose for you before you spend a fortune on unecessary parts
