Question about 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Transmission issue, when in reverse heard a clunk, then a whining sound....later there was no reverse...2001 chevy blazer I had the exact same thing happen just today on a 2000 Chevy Blazer. Two weeks ago, my nephew drove the Blazer and for some dumb reason put it in 4 LOW and then said that the had a "hard time getting it out of 4 low." What? Why did he have it in 4 LOW to begin with. I am wondering if this had anything to do with what happened.

Today i went out to my truck and started driving, and I will admit that i punched the accelerator a little bit coming onto the main road. As i was accelerating it hit about 4000 RPM and wouldnt shift from first, and as i let off the gas i heard a whining sound. As i pulled up to the ATM to withdraw some cash i noticed that the son of a gun wouldnt reverse, and was having a hard time shifting. Any ideas? its a 2000 chevy blazer with 129,000 miles. (I pray its as simple as a line)

The loss of 2nd 4th and reverse is a common failure on the 4L60E. What happens is the reaction shell has separated from the sun gear. Often a whole transmission is cheaper simply because the remanufactured unit from GM are reasonably priced and the warranty is 3yr 100,000 miles.

Have a reputable shop rebuild the transmission or get a gm rebuild. Your nephews time with the vehicle did not have any thing to do with the problem. He might have put some ware on the transfer case but would not have harmed the transmission. I Have seen this problem occur at as little as 50k miles.

2002 Chevy SC1 1500. 64,000 miles. Went to put in reverse, engine made a clunk sound and then whined. Now reverse will not work but just whines when put in that gear. Drive works normally. Any ideas?

Are you sure you have all the forward gears?(4speeds ,three shifts)This is a common problem with this transmission and it is almost always a broken reaction shell. The shell brakes due to a diagnostic code setting and putting the trans into a high pressure setting and braking the shell. It is possible that you have a problem n the reverse input clutches but this is rare.Eithe rway the transmission will need to be removed and diasssembled.Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Truck won't move in drive, when it does it drives slow and has a whining sound. Whines in reverse when you back up. Feels sluggish and doesn't have much acceleration. Also the RPMs fluctuate in cruise...

Try changing the automatic transmission fluid and the transmission filter. There are also bands on the transmission that can be adjusted. You will need to buy the service manual at your local auto parts store to get the exact specifications for adjusting the bands.

Transmission leaks, clunks into gear

Well your clunking noise is most likely the u-joints the leaking pan is the tranny pan what you would have to do is get a tranny kit and change the pan gasket tranny filter and fluid or take to a shop and have a tranny service done.

2001 chevy blazer

It is inside the transmission. It is called a reaction sun shell, it strips out, which causes the grind noise your talking about.
