Question about 1999 Volkswagen Jetta
I have a 99 Jetta with a hole in the oil pan. I'm being told that I need to know whether or not the car has an oil pressure switch in order to get the correct replacement oil pan. Where do I look to determine whether the car has the OPS?
I think they possibly mean an oil level sender because that mounts in the side of the oil pan. It just a float switch, puts a light up on the dash idiot lights to tell you to put more oil in. Look up both sides of the oil pan, it will be a round bolt in affair about the diameter of an orange.
If you can't see one then it's the model without the oil level sensor.

is he sure it isn't the rings are worn also? If so don't waste money on a valve job, when you really need a rebuilt motor. Had you changed the oil more you wouldn't need this repair at this time. Good uck as his price is decent. Ask him the price for a long block?

Replace oil pump and use the bigger filter that Vw tells you to. These 1.8's have some oiling problems due to the amount of oil they hold and they want you to use synthetic oil in them.

the only way you will find this out is to have a diagnostic machine plugged in and the fault memory read to check what fault is logged, it could be anything from a ABS wheel speed sensor to a control module fault, to save money in the long run i would advise you get the fault memory read first. hope this helps
