Question about 1997 Buick Century

1 Answer

My 1997 buick century keeps popping the fuse for the blower, i've replaced it twice tonight and every time i turn the car on it pops again.

I checked the relay fuses and they're all fine. i also checked every other fuse and all of those are fine too. Last winter the blower worked on high only and this winter it won't turn on at all. Thank you!!

When a fuse blows-- you don't replace it

You go to wiring diagrams & check the most
logical thing in the system to draw high current
if it failed

thank you, i'll take a look at that. i've had 5 mechanics in the last 48 hrs tell me to just replace the fuse. :(

They had no intention of finding the issue or you never asked them to

they're just some guys i know, i told them what was going wrong and they said to check a few things and that if it was a bad fuse there should be replacement ones on the panel. I guess neither of us was clear about it.

SOURCE: heater fan speed control only works on 3,4 & 5

No, it is not a fuse problem. Most likely you need to replace the heater blower resistor. A replacement should be available at your local parts store, and they should be able to help you find it's location. If you follow the wires from your blower motor, they will lead to this component. Usually two 7mm screws hold it in the heater box, but might be 5.5mm (7/32").

SOURCE: 1998 buick century only high beams and turn

The Buick Century is equipped with a multi-switch. This switch is an all in one switch that controls your cruise control, windshield wipers and turn signals in one switch. This switch also controls dimming and brightening of your headlights. The dimmer switch is simple to replace, and all you need is a phillips head screwdriver to complete the task.

  1. Removing the Steering Column Shroud
    • Removing the dimmer switch starts at the steering column. To plan this task out, access the steering column by removing the screws holding the steering column shroud in place. This will expose the turn signal lever. Remove the lever by twisting it forward, and pulling it out of the switch.
    Removing the Dimmer Switch
    • The switch is held on by two screws and a wiring harness. The wiring harness can be removed by prying up on the locking tabs and pulling the connector out of the socket. The two screws can be removed with a phillips head screwdriver. The switch will slide out. To install a dimmer switch, be sure to repeat these steps in reverse order.

How do you change the dashboard fuse on a 2001 Buick Century?

Locate the fuse compartment, it should be on the lower left side of the dash, pop the lid, there should be a fuse remover tool inserted on the lid, you'll see it once you take it off, the fuses are clearly labeled. Remove the blown fuse, make sure you replace it with same amp rating fuse.
Goos luck.

My Daughter's 1997 Buick blower stop working- I checked the fueses, and looked to see that the AC compressor was turning, is there another fues or link near the motor.

If it's not working on and speed and the fuses are good it could be the blower motor. If you ( or someone ) have an ohmmeter you can check the motor resistance. Disconnect the two wire plug and measure across the two motor terminals. You should get a low reading ( about one to two ohms ). If it's high or open, replace the motor. Here's a schematic:

Turn signals and 4-way flashers do not work - 1997 Buick Century

Time to change the flasher unit, it's usually close to the drivers side of vehicle and behind a fuse box access panel and will have something like "12v 23/98W " on it. It's a largish cube shaped componant and may be water damaged !
