SOURCE: how do i reset the security system for a 99

disconnect the battery for a few minutes. If this doesnt help you will need to get the code to see if you havea key/tumbler issue or the computer issue. Or try another key if available.

VW Jetta98 horn start honking whe I turn the helm.

I had this same problem on my 99 Jetta. There is a copper contact ring on the steering wheel and brushes on the steering column that allows electrical contact between the wheel and steering column for the horn. I found that there was a copper screw that had backed out and was shorting against the contact ring when I turned the wheel. You should be able to see it if you look at the gap between the wheel and column. I had to remove the steering wheel to get to the head of the screw so I could tighten it back down. In order to remove the steering wheel, you'll have to remove the airbag; something that I was nervous about. I did an online search for "how to remove airbag on Mk III Jetta" and came up with step-by-step instructions. The whole task took me about 1/2 an hour once I found out what I had to do.

1999 vw jetta check engine light on

Do you mean the OBD II connector? If your car is an early 99 then it's a MKIII and it's located under a little door on the dash under the heater controls HERE. IF it's a late 99 model then it's a MKIV and it's under the dash at the far left corner, just above the hood release lever.

Cant find the thermostat on a 1998 jetta

The thermostat is located on the bottom of the water pump on the front of the engine. The lower radiator hose connects to it. You must remove the lower radiator hose. Then remove the slide clip from the plastic tube on the thermostat housing. Remove that plastic tube. Now remove the side cover in the passenger side wheel well. Then remove the 5 bolts holding the power steering pump on and then remove the power steering belt. Now swing the power steering pump to the side. you will now be able to access the two 8mm bolts holding the thermostat in place. And there ya go. Be careful if you snap those 8mm bolts on the thermostat you are gonna have to replace the housing. And you don't want to remove the water pump to do that. Trust me. ; )
