Remove battery leave off for a few hours. good time to give a charge on mains charger, put the battery back on. now put key in ignition and turn to number 2 and leave it on number 2 for 10min or more the light should stay solid on the theft control. turn off ignition then turn back on slowly. the light should not come back on. if it does come back on. take the radio out and check the wires to the radio you can do this while the battery is off... there is a lot of wiring problems on this model so i have found.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire hestitation problems

I would have an electrical system check done on this car.. I would check the alternator to make sure the output is what it is rated at. I would then have a parasitic draw test done. What that is is when the car is off and it had sat for say 1/2 hour to make sure there is nothing in the car that is keeping an excessive drain on the battery. if you have anything after market on this car alarm/amp for radio etc. The car has a base draw that in minimal. It's to keep the colck radio memory going and the computer memory for the engine computer.. Next thing I'd check is the starter motor make sure that is doesn't have an excessive drain when cranking the car.. LAst thing would be the battery cables. If you have high resistance in either cable it will "rob" the starter of the necessary amerage to crank the car over. And tempature has a HUGE roll in this. If the cables already have excessive resistance in them and you warm the car up from the outside temp. it will make the problem worse. If you had a battery thta went bad and was leaking acid out of the the posts that acid wicks it's way into the cabes and that's where the problem started... I would also next battery you buy get one with a higher cold cranking amperage and a longer reserve capacity. Good luck :)

Sounds like the alternator , check the battery voltage . If you can start the car put a voltage tester across the battery terminals rev the engine if no rise in voltage your alternator is dead.

My car batterey cannot hold a charge when it gets jumped all of the lights on the dash pop on uternater. is good the self is good when this was checked out they keep asking if something is running....

Yes if you leave a glove box open, a door open, or your car alarm going off could defiantly drain your battery. On the other hand if it is dieing while running then the problem is your alternator its what keeps your battery charged while your car is running it may test fine but could still be weak. Or it may be that your not letting your car run long enough for it to charge up if you need a jump start then when your car is running don't shut it off for a good 20 minutes because short trips are hard on batteries.

Killed then we jumped started it it went about 2 miles and killed again. we jump started it again, got it running as soon as we took the jumper cables off the running car it killed

if you have a bad altinator it will drain your battery causing the enguine to stop running. and if you killed the car that was jumping it then i def would get the altinator tested on both cars as jumping a car with a bad altinator can cause charging issues on the car doing the jumping.

Have a 1999 pontiac sunfire and it has been a great little car but the last couple of days it has been acting funny. All the gauges have been going haywire, and when I shut it off and restart they are o.k....

Hi there. It sounds a little like the car was running only on the battery , as the alternator may be or has failed. Check the battery for proper voltage (12.01 and up) If the battery is good , then check all the battery connections, and grounds to the vehical chassis. If you can please get back with the results, Thank you , Quinn Texada.

My 1999 Pontiac Sunfire shut off while i was driving on FWY

You could have a bad alternator and are running off the battery voltage. This is just one possibility tho.

Car starts run's 3 seconds shuts down

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.

1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.
