Where is fuel filter on 89 chevy suburban?

My car keeps sputtering, when i try to drive up hill, stalls and wouln't restart. when i turn the key, i hear a humming or motor noise, is it the fuel pump? i was told to check the fuel filter first, it's been very very cold here and may be clogged.

Check that you are getting fuel. It sounds like the fuel pump is bad.

95 Sonoma starts but stalls a few minutes later

turn key and listen to fuel pump if will hum meaning its pressuring the line --if sounds erratic possible going bad may need replacement --check fuel pressure valve by fire wall if weak or sputter either fuel filter or pump---also need to check egr valve if it carboned up or has failed may need cleaning or replacement

I have a 1990 chevy s10 pickup, it stalls in reverse and sputters like crazy when driving. I t idle real rough and I have to drive two footed so it won't stall at lights. It also has problems going up...

you could have a fuel pressure or volume problem that will have to be checked out.could be a plugged fuel filter.it could even be a tune-up problem(bad plugs, wires, etc)its possible that the catalytic converter may be plugged and this will have to be testes with a back pressure test.these are places to start.

Just had the 2000 Buick oil changed on Friday, been driving fine then just now kind of sputtered like it wasn't getting gas, after turning it off and then turned it back on ran fine. Could this be fuel...

i would check the fuel filter before anything else. a fuel filter will block fuel flow if dirty, then when shut off the dirt settles to bottom of filter. upon restart its fine till the dirt gets in the filter again. it wll also cause car to bog down if dirty, especially on hills or grades. it will be slow on take off and may stall out at a stop. if bad enough. have a good day !!

I have a '96 cavalier that makes a humming noise in the gas tank within 5 seconds of starting. I have tried two fuel pumps but the noise is still there!!!

Your fuel pump is supposed to hum, when you turn the key it primes the system and it will hum. When the car is running the fuel pump is running and it will hum. If the noise is excessive then try a higher quality fuel pump, it may be less noisy. You will hear the fuel pump on a lot of vehicles tho when you are sitting at a stop light with your radio off and everything quiet in the car.
