Question about 1990 Pontiac LeMans
During acceleration, my lemans sputters and bucks. I believe it could my choke plate, but don't know where it's located and not too sure how to check it.
I'm venturing to guess that a 1990 lemans is fuel injected. then you wouldn't have a choke plate. I would start by checking the iginition system first, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and if all that looks good then look at the fuel system.

The two studs that sandwich the throttle body together are well known to loosen on these cars. Then the gasket joining the two halves fails and begins to **** air. The car sputters and bucks as the ECM tries to correct and adjust the fuel mixture and spark timing. This is most evident up steep hills.
Remove the air cleaner and filter and then separate the alloy throttle body halves. Either clean the existing gasket and use gasket shellac to put the two halves together or, better yet, use a new gasket. However the last time I checked Pontiac sold a rebuild kit ONLY . . . the gasket was not sold as a separate item. That kit was rather expensive.
I have always separated the body and applied form-a-gasket shellac to the gasket. A key point is to use red loctite when threading in the studs (if loose) back onto the lower throttle body housing or when torquing the nuts on the suds to squeeze the throttle body together as one. Red loctite has never let the two halves separate and leak air after the repair. My car did, perhaps, 250,000 km after the repair with no issues. All others I fixed also solved the poor driving and hesitation problem.
