SOURCE: automatic dies and starts again anywhere from 2-30 minutes later.

Hello
The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

1999 Honda Civic LX Stalling/Overheating!!!

(I don't know much about cars so bear with me).

I've had problems of overheating previously where my car's thermostat would hit 140. I think I've fixed the issue, I've replaced the thermostat but it was still doing that and 2 hoses blew and needed to be replaced. I've had to consistently fill my radiator with 50/50 antifreeze on a daily basis to ensure it won't overheat, so far that seems to be keeping the peace.

But now as of 5 days ago, I'm experiencing these new issues of stalling. Upon taking my civic into my mechanic, his meter showed that there was a misfire in the 2nd cylinder a month prior and now all 4 are misfiring. He thought it was the head gasket at first. I had just recently replaced the spark plugs with NGK Platinums, new spark plug wires and a new distributor cap.

I've received many possible culprits to my problem consisting of possibly the Throttle Position Sensor, Fuel Filter/Injection, Distributor or a radiator cap. I'm financially strapped at the moment and only could afford the radiator cap which didn't solve anything, however my radiator is running on 80% water at the moment. I'm really at a loss and I feel like I've done what I could and I'm at my wits end. Please help my poor little Civic cheat death for a little longer.

All the lights on my dash kept coming on and going off for about 4 months. Then all of a sudden the car just died on me at a stop light. Now my battery is dead; but i've tried to crank it many tim

it could be the alternator . measure the output voltage across the battery with the engine running and car in neutral with hand brake on. It should at least 13.4 volts.
If it does then I would get the battery checked at a car battery place.
A car battery place could also check your alternator.

If you are stranded at the lights suggest calling a mobile car battery replacement person or a road assist company if you are a member of one.

They can jumper a temporary mobile battery across your battery to get car out of traffic stream !

88 landcruiser: fuel pump works, I've pulled it out and tested it, but I only get gas when parked down hill. I've checked the wiring from the relay to the pump.

hey i would say that even if the pump works it may not be pushing enough pressure to start they need 45 psi to start and that just to start and idle but it may be that the pump overheats and does not have enough suction to pull.i would try setting on level ground turn the switch to acc and see if you can hear the pump trying to charge the line it should make a humming noise try turn the switch of and on several time to charge the line although it would be better if you had a way to check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail on the motor with a fp gauge and see maybe it slow to build pressure.if that's not it then it would have to be the pickup on the bottom of the pump the fuel sock.good luck
