I was told by jiffy lube tech that i needed to change my final drive fluid and that it is different than my trans fluid can you please clear this up for me

If you have 4 wheel drive, you do have a final drive that uses gear oil, but I'm not sure you need to change it unless you do a lot of towing or mountain driving. If you do not have 4 wheel drive, there is no final drive separate from the transmission. OK?

Shifts smoothly from 1st to 2nd, but wont shift into 3rd or 4th.

i'm not sure the year, make and model of this automobile but first i would make sure the fluid is full and clean and if it is then you may have an internal problem and may need rebuilding. if the fluid is dirty and burnt then or even if its not burnt i would try a BG flush, this is done with a machine and uses a cleaner and conditioner. google bg trany flush and read up on it, this flush is pretty good and does a good job.

When the preform the transmission service they will drain you transmission of its ATF fluid an replace it with new fluid. It is essentially an oil change for your transmission.

Lots of forgein car dealers say no but ive own and service nissan toyota and i dont change the fluid because you never get all the old oil out and then you mix new and old, what we do is called a trany flush done with a bg flush machine and is done every 30,000 miles unless its syntheic trany oil then at 100,000 miles, the flush is done with a cleaner and then a conditioner and removes 100% of the old oil. hope this helps.

The first thing to do is check the fluid level, make sure engine is warm and car is level, check fluid, if oil is fine then you may need a trany, i would also take a good look at the fluid and make its not brunt or dirty, sometimes ive found that a BG trany service helps in this cases, you may have a dirty or sticking part in the valve body, the does a good job cleaning trany, its worth a shot, hope this helps. note, a 1993 also has a passing gear cable make sure thats connected and adjusted correctly the is located at the throtle body linkage.

Should i change my transmission fluid, i heard it could damage it and cause it to go out?

its a 1999, have a bg trany flush done, this is done with a cleaner added to fluid, then a machine is used, it hoohs up to line of trany, it then flushes out 100% of the old fluid, this is the best way, also trany oil should be changed every 30,000 miles.hope this is helpful, also check out there website,@ for more info.

Does fine shifting when cold after heats up slips

those trany are none for problems. first is to check your fluid level if its good then to the trany shop it goes, you can try having the trany fluid flush if it hasnt been done every 30,000 miles.if not then you may need a rebuild.

2005 ford taurus ----transmission flush or drop pan? which is best?

It makes no sense to me to just drop the pan.. That only exchanges around half the fluid..

I allways do a complete exchange - to include the tourque converter.. Allot of fluid hiding in there too..

Makes allot more sense to me..
It cost more but its worth it.. I get it done at a trusted quick lube place.. I pay about $120.00 & I watch them closely...

A trani can prety much last forever if maintained very well..

Allot of people dont know that - dirty & old fliud is what causes leaks & damage..

I do it every 50-k miles.. My trani has 150-k miles on it and runs like the day it was new - AND nice and clean with no leaks ;o)
Knock on wood lol..

Hope this helps !!
Please rate me good ;o)
