This is telling you a electrical fault in the 4X4 engagement has occurred, most likely the engagement electric motor, pull it out and test the motor.

SOURCE: how to charge my ac in 1997 honda passport

Simply go to store and purchase an A/C recharge kit. 1997 Honda Passports generally use the lesser toxic R13 refrigerant. Following directions from this site should help: http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/AC-recharge.htm

I charge my battery on my 2001 Honda passport it

Could be the battery or alternator. To check the alternator. Start the vehicle, then remove the negative side of the battery post. If it dies, replace the alternator. Have the battery checked with a load tester.

Dash lights won't work and alternator doesn't appear to be charging battery. All visible fuses are good

The alternator needs power from the battery to energise the rotor, so without the dash lights the alternator is not charging. Check for a fuse link near the battery. Get the dash lights on and the charging fault will clear. Sorry I can't be more specific as to the dash problem.

Why is battery light on?

That means that you have a problem with your charging circuit. The most common causes are:

Dirty or loose battery posts.
Loose radiator belt. (only if it is a dedicated belt)
Alternator or Voltage regulator malfunctioning or defective.

Take your vehicle to an AutoZone store, they will check your charging circuit at no charge.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck!!

try checking the tension on all the belts(fan/water pump, power steering, alternator). If loose, they'll whine.
