Question about 2005 Subaru Forester 2.5

1 Answer

Rough idle in cold weather

Engine sounds rough and stays that way even after warming up and driving for a while. It used to idle very low at a light, but if I put it in neutral for a minute that would straighten it out, or I would drive around and stop, and when I started again, it wouldn't happen anymore. Now, recently, engine sounds rough, like it is running hard, but stays that way. I have relatively new plugs too, but drives crappy.

Lean fuel code for 2006 toyota corolla runs rough in cold weather if you do not let it warm up. If the car is warmed up no problem, but check engine light comes on

Automatic idle control module and the valve it controls on the engine need attention. Sometimes a simple cleaning of the valve is all that's needed.

It was very cold, the car sat in the garage for 3 days with very lower fuel, now it idles rough and sounds rough, did I ruin something by not having enough fuel when cold?

No,low fuel isn't your problem. If there's enough fuel for the fuel pump to pick up your car should run okay. You haven't ruined anything. It's not your fault.

It is possible that a low fuel level - very low indeed - has allowed debris/dirt into the system and is causing a blockage. However, I think this is quite unlikely to be the problem you have.

You say the car idles rough - does it drive at speed okay? If it drives okay at speed you can rule out most fuel problems .. most.

Backtrack a bit .. has your car ever ran/idled roughly before? Cold weather can exacerbate a problem.

It could be the cold weather- fuel and injections system have cold start devices or sensors of one sort or another. It may be a faulty sensor. Get somebody to do a diagnostic check for you

Rough idle after engine is warm

Dirty air filter, dirty throttle body...try 2 bottles of gas line fuel injector cleaner...has your car been parked for awhile? Heet gas additive will work on any low gas tank sludge that you may have. Hope this helps.

Air temp sensor may be faulty causing incorrect mixture, take it to a garage for diagnosis.

Car over-heats and heats blows cold air

It sounds like the radiator is low on coolant.
You could also have air pockets in the cooling system if the system is not full of liquid.

Vibration at idle

it may be idle control sensor or a bad mas air flow sensor--maf sensor in otherwords. or could be engine misfire at cold temp. start. only time when cold? or does run better when warm? try warming engine to operating temperature before driving,if problem removes it's self after warm up,up grade gas to 93 octane for 1 tank full. then see if problem goes away. it's cold where you are right? if so the fuel needs to be at least midgrade 89 octane fuel because 87 octane fuel will not start your honda correctly at cold temps. in cold weather 93 or super gas octane will start ,no problem, low octane fuel sometimes gels, or freezes at low temps. if in warm climate, change the fuel filter, add fuel injector cleaner to your fuel tank[preferablly lucas fuel treatment] this will lube your fuel injectors and give better fuel mileage. thank you for choosing fixya.com
