Check for power to the distributor when it wont start. If there is no power check the PGM-FI relay under the dash. If you pop the cover off and inspect the solder joints you can usually see a ring around one or more joints. this is a crack and will cause an intermittent no start. Typically it will happen on a hot day after the car has sat out in the sun for an extended period

SOURCE: The coil went bad on my 1994 Acura Integra.

Unplug your negative battery cable for 10 seconds then put it back on. Make sure you have the code for your "anti-theft" stereo if you still have the stock radio.

Have1999 suburban k1500 5.7. have spark out of coil but no spark at plugs. have changed rotor and cap several times what else could it be.need wiring diagram to see where wire out of distributor goes...

If you can tell me what color the wire is I should be able to tell you where it goes.
But if you are getting spark from the coil tower the primary ignition system is working.
Have you checked the coil wire, and will it fire a plug ? The coil could be weak enough to fire a plug in open air but not in a cylinder under compression.
You do know for a fact the distributor rotor is turning, right ?

Hi I have a1988 chevy k1500 died changed coil dist wire from coil to dist have fuel no spark any ideas thanks

remove dist cap and rotor, under the rotor there is a control module (its about 1/4" tall, 1" wide, and 2-2 1/2" long) remove the module and take it to a parts store and have it tested. If its bad replace it and put dist back together and try starting it again. if thats not it then have coil check. Oh ya before you take anything apart disconect battery.

86 gmc 2wd 305 slight cam. At initial start, engined fired and ran great for about 30 min or so at operating temp, then started stumbling and will no longer start. Spark was present at only 5kw though, not...

This works with the 5 prong module on an HEI ignition system with the coil that is mounted on the top of dist. The wires that come out of the back of the dist go to a spark controll module under the dash and they are junk. There is a conector on the wiring harness about 5" from the dist unplug that conector and run a jumper wire from the green wire to the black wire on the dist side and make sure you tape up all wires on dist side to keep them from grounding out. On the other side of the dist where your 12V goes in (batt conection) there are to wires piggybacked on top of each other disconect them from dis and plug only the pink 1 into dist at the batt conection. Where the wires on the back of dist run into firewall there should be a vacume line disconect and plug on engine compartment side. Thats how you do the bypass and the spark control module can be removed from under the dash if you want to but its not hurting anything to leave it there. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING MAKE SURE YOU DISCONECT THE BATTERY. When all this is done you mite have to advance your timing 8-15 degrees. I had to advance mine 12 degrees. let me no if you have any problems. kyle yeo

check the ignition module, poss near the distributer for heatsink (contact) paste on the base to draw the heat away from the module. With the engine light coming on, it should have thrown a code possibly a bypass ignition or no pulse while cranking. If so refresh the ignition module.

Do you have spark??? if so, check fuel pressure, these trucks must have 60 psi to run, 50 psi will not work,.

Solved most of this myself. Changed ING. module which solved spark problem. The injectors still would not function, help came from JUSTANSWERS by idenifying a relay tucked between the left headlight motor and the coolant recovery canister. Like the IGN. module, this relays not cheap. I found a $5 dollar used replacement from a self-pull wrecking yard from it's sister car, a 1988 mazda 323.

1990 K5 Blazer DIED(Electrical?)?

There may be no injector pulse if the computor does not see a RPM signal.
There will be no spark if the ignition module does not see a dist pulse from the dist pickup.......a RPM signal.
Because you do not have both ......I would suggest to check/change the dist pick up.
Follow the wires from the ignition module inside the dist to the pickup which is also inside the dist.
If it is just a bad dist pickup....keep all your old parts as good spares.
Also...is the dist turning? to provide a RPM signal?
You will have to remove the dist to change the pick-up.....mark your timing locations......"rotor position" and "dist body location"before removal.
A quick test before installing the "repaired dist" .....plug it in the the truck wiring and turn on the key....DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DIST ROTOR CORRECT POSITION......as you spin the dist by hand .....the injectors should spray.

Turn the ignition on to the ON position if the check engine light goes out within 5 seconds then it is not the computer or the pfi relay if it stays on then you probably have a bad PFI relay located under the dash.or computer but most likely the relay.
