What does a freeze plug look like

A freeze plug is a smooth sided (not threaded) "plug" or "cup" that is pressed into the side of a cast hole in the engine block, leading to the water (coolant) jacket. Its purpose is to be able to pop-out should the coolant in the block ever freeze (such as when antifreeze solution is too diluted or running straight water as coolant). Since water expands when freezing the freeze plugs will pop out, relieving the pressure, rather than having the block crack. Here's some pics of freeze plugs.

Sometimes older freeze plugs corrode, since they are made of metal only about 1/16" thick, and start to leak. That's the most common reason they are replaced.

The link below is a better pic of a freeze plug in the block.

the cause is many (50parts) but is 3 causes. in physics, 99%
1: lost engine compresson hot.
2: lost or weak spark, (tune up time?)
3: bad fueling too lean bogs, too rich misfires,

1,2,3, all engines. gas.

Wear is the air filter in 2007 jetta

It's under the engine cover. You have to remove the large black engine cover to see/replace the air filter which is integrated into the engine cover.
Here are instructions with pics:

Check engine light has been on and now is flashing.(looks more like a engine/transmission pic). Car is sputterin on occasion.

When the light is flashing its indicating a problem that can cause more severe problems and should be diagnosed as soon as possible From what youve indicated it may be a misfire code which will cause catalytic converter problems
