Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

My car wouldn't start one day

The key would turn but the car wouldn't start, my uncle changed a spark plug and the next day I took it to the shop, they told me it's the ignition lock cylinder. Does this sound right?

The lock cylinder(where you insert the key) fires up a ignition switck that could be bad.I ntfires up accessories on first clic k, and engages the start on full crank....If the car was not turning over, switch could be bad,or if it has a clutch switch(If manuel trans) You will have to test for power at solenoid on starter with a test light.(very cheap and simple to use) If there is power when you try to cranknit at starter solenoin, then its probobly your starter....if no power and a stick shift, you can bypass te clutch switch to test by unplugging at switch and connecting the two wires together...if automatic,it is most likely the ignition switch, technically not the lock cylinder...hope this helps....Lee

This is about to be rather lengthy, so I apologize in advance. I traded for a 98 Firebird on April 19th. Already broke down. The problem doesn't lie within the engine or transmission however. What...

Sounds like the electrical part of the ignition switch, not the lock cylinder that needs replacing.
Possible also that cutting that wire to the security module immobilized it.

The car dies out, it will turn over but wont start, it ran one day then wouldn't

It is probably one of three things. It isn't getting a proper spark, proper fuel, or proper compression. Good luck!--------------------------------------------------------------------------

2001 Honda Civic Key Green light keep flashing in the dashboard

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

98 Ford F150 w/4.6l Wont start. Hear fuel pump click. Have pressure on fuel rail. Pulled #1 plug from head and plugged back into wire. Grounded plug and cranked. No spark. Changed wires 4 and 7 four days...

have diagnostic codes checked to see if you have a cam or crank sensor fault. make sure fuel pressure is at the required pressure, just testing to see if you have fuel at the valve is not enough. replace all spark plug wires. if you replaced two then all are just as old and even when they "look good" does not qualify as "they are good". Replace coil pack. start up drive away happy
