The Rav 4 has difficulty starting, both warm and cold, and after it starts it stalls. After giving it some gas, it will start and stay running. I'm thinking it might be a problem with the valve that stops fuel from draining all the way back to the gas tank when the vehicle is shut off. Where do I find this valve and how do I replace it?

Check your gas filter, or your egr, and vacuum hoses.

clogged injectors you need to put cleaner in the fuel to help get dirt and grit out of them some times (every 3 months).
I am assuming you are saying it will turn over but not fire and run when cold?

I had a problem with my 1995 Camry also. I would run fine cold, warm up when you let off the gas or shifted gears it would die. Sometimes it would start back up and sometimes it would not. After Many repairs, full tune up ect. ect. it turns out that the Coolant Temperature Sensor was bad. A $15 part. When you are driving the engine stays cool but once you let off the gas, when this sensor is bad, it reads the engine as hot and stalls it to keep it from overheating.

What color is the smoke? If its blueish Your buring oil. If its greyish , Your burning coolant. Black, your fuel fixture is too rich. Usually on start up its Greyish and is coolant. Which means you have a bad head gasket. Can be verified by thecolor of the coolant in the radiator may be a milky blend or you will find oil in the coolant. You can also remove a few plugs and see if there are traces of coolant on them. Good luck and keep me posted.
