Question about 2000 Ford Escort
The shifter on my mom's car got stuck in park, and the screwdriver trick stopped working for her, so I offered to take the console apart and ziptie the lever in place so she can shift any time she needs to, but haven't found any online guides showing what to do to get the console apart. I'm not too car savvy, and just wanted to know what I was getting myself into, and what tools I needed to bring, before I made the trek to her house to fix it. Thanks!
Don,t mess with it, If you don,t no what in the hell your doing, Unless you want to end up with a real nice repair bill guy, Do her areal favour end get it done (Properly,) End this info is comeing from a woman that was a certified mechanic for over 45 plus (Years)

SOURCE: Brake lights
I have a 98 and had the same problem just today, I found the problem by looking up where the pedal goes to and you will see two switches that the pedal hits when released, its the switch on the left side of the car, you will notice two (well one is prolly missing since the lights wont go off) blueish rubber pads on the brake pedal that hit the switches. since the one that goes to the switch to turn the lights off is gone go out and buy a small plastic body push screw to insert in the hole the old pad was in. there ya go all fixed

Hello pamgolmon: My name is Roger and i will answer your question. The 2-0 dual cam engine is a interference engine. This means if the engine jumps time at the timing belt. It will bend the valves. As for the timing marks on the camshafts. Their are no marks to be located. To set the timing marks on this engine requires special tools. This makes it expensive for not only the do it yourself mechanic but also the repair shops also. If the valves were bent you must pull the head for the repairs also.
I know this is not the answer you were hoping for but it is the only answer to give. Please rate the quality of the answer as this way we know your answer was correct. Please just ask if you need further help. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
