1998 Ford Taurus - Keys don't work manually in door

When my battery recently died and I tried to open my doors manually since I couldn't open them with my clicker, the key would not work in the doors or in the trunk. I bought this vehicle used and have only ever had the ignition key. Is there another key that is supposed to open the doors and trunk, or do I have something wrong with the lock?

Thanks for your help!

I suspect someone changed the ignition switch and just used the key that came with it instead of having the switch repinned to the existing key. The key for the doors and ignition are the same from the factory.
You should look for the original keys or the plastic card with the key codes on it. The delaer can cut you a key just for the doors with this code. You don't need a key blank with the chip just to open the doors. Or go to the dealer, Ford or Mercury and ask them to get the codes from Ford using your VIN # (17 digit). Or, the sellimg dealer usually keeps them on file. Any dealer can tell you who the selling dealer was by using your VIN #, good luck

have a locksmith come over, he will take a lock out of one of the front doors and make a key from that.

SOURCE: Daughter just locked keys in

have her to look under the back windshield area in the trunk to see if she can see a cord or a pull / release strap, in order to lower the back seat.

Most cars have manual method to open doors. Put key in, turn key as far as possible, lift door handle and you should now be able to turn key further and unlock door.

Car battery died so I cant get into my ford taurus how do I get the hood open without being inside the car?

You don't have a key to unlock the door ?
It might be easier to hook a jumper cable to the battery post on the starter from under the car, instead of trying to open the hood thru the grille.

I have 1997 ford taurus gl the ajar door light will not go off. it apperantly stays on after the car is turn off this draing the power on the battery and i then ai have s dead battery

you have two options. You can use a higher end scan tool to scan the GEM module to see what door ajar switch is stuck. You can then focus you attention on that door.

Option two is remove all four door panels and unplug the door ajar switch (starting on the drivers front which is the most common) and see which one finally turns off the door ajar switch.

You could also try this. Open the drivers front door. Liberally spray the latch (the part on the door that holds the door shut) with brake cleaner. Once it has dried liberally spray the area with a penetrating lube (seafoam Deep Creep is one of my favorites). Do be afraid to spray both in every nook and cranny you possible can in the latch opening. Once lubricated open and close the door several times then check to see if the door ajar light goes out. Don't be afraid to try this several times.

The battery is dead on my 2008 Ford Taurus X, the doors are locked and my keys won't unlock the door. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I've already tried the key less entry. That is...

I hate the way they have incorporated these new alarm systems so that you cant open the doors when the battery is dead, some cars will lock you inside unable to open door from inside. The electric door locks are what is keeping you from being able to unlock doors. Some people go to Auto Zone and rent the tool that can be slid into the door by way of the window opening, this doesn't always work. the best way to get in is to go under the car with a set of jumper cables and charge the battery from the large battery cable that is connected to the starter.. charge battery enough to access door locks P.s. it wont take much power to use key to unlock door after the battery has a small charge..

Dome light stays on. Always says theres a door ajar.

The sensors are in the latch assembly. Try opening the doors and spraying the latches with WD-40 that will usually fix it.

Ford 1998 Taurus - interior light stays on

first lets understand that every door has a sensor . and that sensor is in the door latch assembly . and over time this latch gets sticky and needs cleaned.
what i have found is WD40 worked very good for me.
make sure you spray a large amount into each door latch trying to wash out the dirt and dust .
the go around to each door and open and shut them to work in the WD40. and then go around one more time and spray again. this will help remove any thing that has been knocked loose.
then just wipe down your doors . and if the sensor isnt broken your light will work like they should.
good luck
