Question about 1998 Ford Taurus
When my battery recently died and I tried to open my doors manually since I couldn't open them with my clicker, the key would not work in the doors or in the trunk. I bought this vehicle used and have only ever had the ignition key. Is there another key that is supposed to open the doors and trunk, or do I have something wrong with the lock?
Thanks for your help!
I suspect someone changed the ignition switch and just used the key that came with it instead of having the switch repinned to the existing key. The key for the doors and ignition are the same from the factory.
You should look for the original keys or the plastic card with the key codes on it. The delaer can cut you a key just for the doors with this code. You don't need a key blank with the chip just to open the doors. Or go to the dealer, Ford or Mercury and ask them to get the codes from Ford using your VIN # (17 digit). Or, the sellimg dealer usually keeps them on file. Any dealer can tell you who the selling dealer was by using your VIN #, good luck

SOURCE: Daughter just locked keys in
have her to look under the back windshield area in the trunk to see if she can see a cord or a pull / release strap, in order to lower the back seat.
