Engine swap serial number check

I think the garage has swaped my engine as the car does not run properly since its return to me, i see engine bits that i have not seen before, their are several diferring numbers on them. How do i check the engine serial number with the one on my log book? I have seen a sticker on the side of my engine, but don't believe it is the original serial number as why would the car makers use a sticker on a hot engine side?

SOURCE: check engine light - 240 enfgine running rich

It could be a number of things but must be diagnosed via computer code check. If you are unable to do so yourself, find a reputable Volvo mechanic. It could be the air mass meter, a bad O2 sensor or something related. Mine turned out not to be the air meter but a bad ground wire going to it. Didn't find out until $400.00 later.

SOURCE: BMW 318i serial number location

Try the trunk lid where the tools are kept. The tools that I'm talking about are on the actual trunk lid, or atleast they are on my 94 318i. There should be a copy of the VIN there.

If the 'garage' pressure tested the cylinders, that would point them in the correct direction instead of piddling into the wind and guessing.

Is this a 4.9L engine? An inline 6? My database doesn't show a 4.9L in that model year. It does show that engine in 95.
Did you visually check for spark at number 4 cylinder?
For 95-- 4.9L--fuel pressure--50--60 psi. Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, see if fuel pressure will hold for a bit with everything off.
Fuel--spark--compression. Some ford makes and models, ford can disable the fuel injector, if misfire is detected. I only mention this because, swapping injectors may not be conclusive? You can check for fuel injector pulse, anyway.
How long since over-all tune-up? You did get a new fuel filter, if inline filter, correct?

I hav a 65 f100,motor has been swaped out,i think its a 302,the onley block numbers i c r on the front block pansenger side that reads 2(over)80

There should be a serial number stamped on the block itself in front of the one of the heads (the one that sits back further. With this serial number you should be able to contact a dealer and find out the correct engine size. Older Fords had either a 289 cubic inch, a 302 and a 351 small block which from the outside will all look the same.

I am just a bit suspicious of the coincidence between clutch change and synchro, especially on an vehicle so little used (10,000 yes?). Can you be sure that the gear box you have is the one you came in with. If you have the VIN number it should be possible to obtain a print out containing a list of the serial numbers of all major components (engine and gear box). Maybe I am just paranoid but it maybe worth checking just to rule out the possibility that rather than change the clutch they swapped out the gearbox for one that was just lying around. Stranger things have happened..

Does the fuel return line have to be there for my 99 explorer to run? someone did an engine swap and completely removed the fuel return line from the tank to the duck bills in the engine compartment,...

This line has to be hooked up for gas to go back to the tank. Gas gets sucked out of the tank then through the engine and then the excess has to return to the tank. This keeps air bubbles out of the system after it runs dry.
