SOURCE: chimes ring when you open drivers side door no keys in ignition

Sounds like the contact for the key chime in the steering column is shorted to ground. The only way to get the contact is to buy the clockspring. If you can live with it leave it alone. The clockspring is labor intense. You have to remove the airbag, steering wheel, and trim around column. If you ar mechanically inclined you could just disconnect it by cutting the wire going to the chime. It is under the key tumbler. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: How do you disable the door chime and key reminder

the switch is inside the steering column at the end of the ignition key lock switch. The chime is wired to other circuits as well. I would leave it be and wire the radio direct so no key is needed to turn the key on to play

7 dings and a beep when starting 2000 ford explorer? what does that mean

NOTE: The generic electronic module/central timer module (GEM/CTM) is connected to the ISO link and is diagnosed through the data link connector (DLC) with a scan tool.
There are five warning chimes and lamps the GEM/CTM controls: headlamps operating without the ignition on (chime only), door ajar (chime and lamp), key-in-ignition (chime only), driver seat belt warning (chime and lamp), and message center.

Audible Warnings Warning Condition Lamp Duration Audible Duration Audible Output Safety Belt 60 Seconds 6 Seconds Chime, 60/Min. 740 Hz Key In Ignition - Continuous Chime, 120/Min. 740 Hz Headlamps On - Continuous Chime, 240/Min. 740 Hz Door Ajar Continuous 1 Second Single Tone, 1000 Hz Message Center (Tone Request) - 1 Second Single Tone, 1000 Hz
When the is turned to RUN or START from OFF or ACC, the chime will sound for six seconds or until the safety belt is buckled.
The will turn on for 60 seconds or until the driver safety belt is fastened. Both the chime and the lamp turn on at the same time.
If the safety belt is buckled before the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START, from OFF or ACC, neither the chime nor lamp will be activated.
Anytime the is changed to RUN from START while the safety belt warning indicator is activated, the safety belt warning indicator will remain activated until either the timing sequence has been executed or the safety belt is buckled.
When at least one door is ajar and the key is in the RUN position, the door ajar cluster lamp is activated and remains on until all doors are closed. A warning tone will sound once any time the key is in the ignition switch and any door is open.
The key-in-ignition warning will sound when the driver side is opened with the key in the and the in OFF or ACC. It will continue to sound until the key is removed, the is closed, or the is in RUN or START.
The headlamp-on reminder chime will be activated if the headlamps or parking lamps are on, the key is not in the ignition switch, and the driver door is opened.
A single tone will be provided each time a ground signal is received from the message center. A one-second tone will sound for warning indications from the message center. A 100 milli-second tone will sound for each message center button depressed.

I think the computer is going. It ring s bell every 5 minutes at times. the drivers seat moves backward. The mirrors change position on their own. Do I need to replace it or reprogram it? If that is what...

The bell ringing could be three things one the chime unit going out, or the door switch is shorting out or loose in it's socket or the chime module is defective. As far as the mirrors you could have kids shoving the mirrors around if it's parked outside, if it's parked inside then I am not sure what it would be. However low voltage could cause a problem for you you can take it to a parts store and have them test the battery and alternator make sure the voltage is at least 11.5 volts on the battery if not the battery may be going out also have them clean the battery posts and cable ends it could be corroded. if the alternator and battery are fine and are clean then I would buy the door chime module and replace it and as for the mirrors I will have to think on that one a bit let me know if it's parked outside. Thanks for using fix-ya

2001 Chevy Malibu has a 3 tone alert beep that I don't recognize, it's not the regular chime for door open or trunk open what is it. Have had no start issues with car and theft lock is flashing

That model was known for lock cylinder ans ignition switch problems for the no start and theft lock concern. The chime issue could be a problem or not check in your owners manual for chime sounds.I remember when working on these cars they have different chime sounds for different selected options that could be changed and I also had some problems with the BCM body control module causing some weird issues with these models.

Possible ignition switch problem? 99 Explorer

key chime sounds if the little tab is grounded where the key contacts it. The theft light is supposed to blink when the system is armed to let you know it is armed. That's normal.

What do you mean by auto door locks won't unlock? The remote doesn't work? the door lock/unlock button on the door trim panel? Do they lock ok? Or, just unlock doesn't work?
