Question about 1989 Lincoln Mark VII
I have a mark Vll with 50,000. miles the engine (5.0) misfires when you try to give it gas. I have cleaned the plugs and changed the cap and rotor. It is also had to start after it sits to long.
Check the timing but FIRST disconnect the SPOUT connector. reset the timing and check your firing order. It's listed on the emissions sticker on the fan shroud.

I guess my first question would be when was fuel filter changed last? Fuel pressure tested? With an 89 it may be wise to take it for a scan (EEC IV) on that year I believe. Try filter first, then fuel pressure test if that doesn't help, then scan. To start replacing sensors without any codes to tell you where to focus your attention, could cost you more in the long run. It shouldn't cost much for a quick scan for trouble codes. let us know.
