There may be a mechanical back up system to temporaily bypass the electrical circuit. Look in your owner manual. Some have a small hole in the shift console to insert a pin the depress the release for the shift interlock.

I have a saab 93 and the check gear box light came on for the transmission came on and wont pull or engage gear can anyone help.

the old 9-3 have a problem with the neutral switch, its mounted on the transmission and it tells the transmission module what gear its in ,if it goes bad,the module does not know which gear its in and will not allow the car to be driven.

Will not turn over

You should have a neutral safety switch between the key switch and the starter to keep you from starting it in gear.
I would check the starter for voltage and the neutral safety switch, then the key switch.

could be the solenoid on the starter is going bad. but best bet is to get a whole new stasrter as a new solenoid comes on it. solenoid is almost as expensive as getting both together

Squeeze the logo and pull up on the "ring" to seperate the "key" from the pod. Then insert the key n the slot and turn to pry apart the pod. The battery is inside of the pod.

Saab 9-5 1999 won't go into reverse

ASE Mechanic:
Try checking the fluid level first, and then look for any leaks. if corrected right away you might not have to rebuild the trans. but other wise look into the cost of a rebuilt transmission.

Can't remove key from 9.3 saab convertible

If the car is a manual transmission car, it has a reverse lockout function. The gear shift lever must be in reverse to remove the key.

Theft alarm sounds w/o provocation

This sometimes can also be related to the internal batteries in the alarm ECU or alarm siren module going bad. If your handy the internal batteries can be replaced without buying a new replacement unit. Otherwise, the entire module must be replaced ($$$). Lastly, you can have a Saab indy or dealer disarm the theft alarm on the vehicle. You retain your keyless operation, but the alarm is not active. This is done in the programming and adjustment menus in the TWICE unit with the Saab Tech 2 computer.
