what spins [if engine spins than cranking over ] if starter just spins than than timing belt or other major internal problem if engine doesnt turn at all by hand or with starter possible seized or timing belt
Check timing belt first. Some engines are interference types, such that when belt fails pistons may hit the valves causing major damage. Google search you engine # to see if your is or is not one of these. If non-interference type, you will just need to replace the belt, but most folks also replace the belt tensioner and perhaps water pump if it is also belt driven. You normally buy a kit of all these parts.
No your engine is not an interference engine you should have the chrysler 3.0 liter engine i believe in your van, I changed a timing belt on one of those 2 years ago because the belt broke, after installing the new belt the van runs fine, so to my knowledge that engine if you have it IS NOT interference you should be able to install a new belt and it will be fine....
The 3 liter mitsubishi is pretty prone to this actually. You would have to tear it down to see what happened, but yes it's likely that you have a bent valve and/or hole in the top of a piston from a valve.
hi when you say it overheated then when you tried it nothing does that mean the batteries dead why ? has it overheated and the batteries dead to has your fan belt broke and run the battery down as well or has the engine seized up ? yates210456
The 3.0 liter is a Mitsubishi design and is not a free wheeling engine or a non interference design, this does not mean the valves are bent, install the belt and then check for bent valves.
