2001 jaguar s-type 4.0 oil in spark plug area

I have a 2001 jaguar s-type that is misfiring badly. It started around 55-60 mph then moved on to a all the time problem. I went to change the spark plugs and found there was oil on the passenger side front 3 coils (I am unsure of the numbers) the oil was completly covering 2 spark plugs and half way up the third

Hi bravo956
i also have the same problem regarding the oil leak. this is due to the spark plug gasket leaking and you will need to replace them. they are circular gaskets about 1.5 inches across that fit to the underside of the rocker covers and prevent oil from seeping down the long spark plug hole. when i investigated my leak i assumed it was just the rocker cover gasket that was leaking but once everything was removed it is obvious.

The misfire is probably not caused by the oil leaking on to the plugs.

this is most likely due to one or more of the coils breaking down, when this happened to my jag i bought two coils and swapped the coils out one by one listening to the engine each time, when the engine sounded better i put that bad coil to one side and carried on until all coils had been checked and the engine sounded a smooth as it could, the car now drives well and i have a spare coil for when the next one breaks down.

Can't get it over 50 mph. It bucks hard and check engine starts flashing.

It could be bad spark plugs ,Or spark plug wires, Or fuel injecters, Or the motor has seen it,s better days, Depending on the mileledge on the vehicle, End if it was ever mantained (Properly)

Jaguar misfire at 50 mph. diagnostics say cylinders 4and 8 misfire

That's specific enough to be spark plugs and/or wires. Depending on the year (engine placement) it might be easy to check yourself but it'd also be relatively quick for a mechanic to do the same. If it were anything more serious like a crankshaft sensor, or the crankshaft itself, the car wouldn't maintain idle long enough to drive. Best to take care of this ASAP though.

Misfire cylinder 6... 4.0L jag s type 2000

MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 6 COULD BE FAULTY SPARK PLUG OR BAD IGNITION COIL OVER THE SPARK PLUG,YOU COULD HAVE HAVE CLOGGED FUEL INJECTOR.CLEAN ALL FUEL INJECTORS USING A CAN OF SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS SEE IF NUMBER 6 MISFIRE CLEAR UP, IF NOT COIL OR FUEL INJECTOR COULD BE AT FAULT.ALSO CHANGE 6 SPARK PLUG FIRST.BEFORE BUYING NEW COIL OR FUEL INJECTOR THAT WAY YOU KNOW PLUG NOT THE PROBLEM.

Misfire on cylinder no.1 fault code P0301

there are a few things that set this code.a bad spark plug,a bad spark plug wire,a bad ignition coil,a bad fuel injector(either not working or very dirty),a compression problem(either poor valve sealing or piston assembly problem),a vacum leak at cylinder #1,the rule of thumb is you need 3 things for a cylinder fire,spark-fuel-air.

My 2001 oldsmobile alero has a cylinder #4 misfire

The misfire can be caused by an open injector , injector pulg or circuit, bad spark plug ro wire lost compression as a burnt valve blown gasket ( antifrezze foulingthe sparplugs ) Low compression from overheating over mileage or flooding from injector leaking. Take out the number 4 plug and any other and compare what they look like if they don't look the same swich them and see if the miss moves to the cyclinder that the #4 plug moved to. If it does run good or misses on the new cyclinder change the spart plug with new and then look for loss of coolant or oil on plug wire carrect leak and try again

I'm experiencing rough/rocking idle of the engine. Also stalls when performing parking manouvers. Could i need new spark plugs?

check for air leaks or vacuum leaks around intake at the throttle body, be sure the rubber on the plastic of the air intake is sealing on the throttle body. may also have bad valve cover gaskets allowing oil into spark plug holes deteriorating the coil boots and causing a misfire.plugs will be good til about 80,000miles

P0420 Error code, I had the sparks plugs replaced in dec...now one is misfiring again.

i dont know if this 402 code is a miss code on a jag but usually miss codes are p0300 codes. if you are hearing a ticking and you own a spray bottle, an old mechanics trick is to mist water on the plug wires while the engine is running preferrably in the dark.
