SOURCE: VW Polo Classic 1997 IDLE Problems

Hello, VW polos 1.0, 1.4. 1.6, suffer from carbon bulid up in the throttle bodys causing bad idling, esp the Bosch Mono-Motronic (Throttle Body Injection systems), a good clean with carb cleaner should repair the problem, also engine temp sensor replacement and idle speed control valve replacement can help idle problems.

SOURCE: VW Polo Classic, fuel efficiency problem

Has the car been serviced recently?
If not I would suggest getting it done. Not sure if you have diesel or petrol, but oil can thicken causing more load on the motor and airfilters get blocked and can cause a rich fuel mixture.

If petrol you can take out the plugs to check if they are a light brown colour, if very dark or black you need to check and adjust carb/injection settings/filter.Need to know what engine it is really.

SOURCE: Overheating Polo

this sounds like a thermostat fault, but also could be the sensor switch to the radiator but is more likely the thermostat, it should be located at the front top of engine, follow the top water hose to the engine and you will find the thermostat housing, also just a heads up, these had a problem when first made, according to the known fixes and problems with VW's the hoses corroded inside and started loosing water, this could be wise to get the system presure checked to...hope this helps

My 2003 Polo classic starts making a knocking, scraping sound near the left front whell when I drive around a sharp corner. It carries on for a while and then stop I cannot see anything stuck in the wheel....

sounds like ball joint, take it on an area where u can fully turn in a circle and listen for knocking, see if u here it when driving in a straight line, if not chances are it ur ball joint,
also jack car up on side it knocks and see if there slight play in the wheel when u woble it side to side

How do i remove a door panel from a vw polo match 2001. I have the lock/unlock button to reposition back in its slot as it has been pushed into the door.

You'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door
