suggest the first thing you do, is to pull the codes off the ECM, and go from there...more than likely it's a TPI, idle sensor or fuel pump relay thats dirty or sticking thats causeing the problem...
Your local AutoZone can perform the scan and explain the results to of charge.
Good luck, hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

SOURCE: My 1994 Acura Legend keeps running hot. Gauge

When the car is completely cool, check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor, contact and wire.

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket, black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

I remove the thermostat and I also replaced the coolant temperature sensor, But temp gauge goes all the way up to hot, even when the car is cold at the mornings. Any idea what could it be the problem?

The thing to do is take the cap off the radiator and use a thermometer to see if the gauge in the car is accurate. The thermostat should not be removed. Cars need to have an operating temperature that is high to keep emissions down.

I have a 1996 Acura Integra. I recently drove my car and found that my gauges were showing that it was overheating quite substantially. I checked the engine itself to make sure it wasn't my gauges...

Check if the Fan is working normal, also check if the water is at the normal level. Make sure the water is not filled up because it has it normal water level.

On the temperature gauge, all I have is a hot and cold label, not one saying what normal is. I was wondering if it didn't go over half if I was still okay?

the temp guage on a car is only a guide to the actual temp of the water,it is basically to let you know when it is hot enough to use full power.also it lets you know when it overheats/runs cold.(other problems)around halfway is fine.....

My temperature gauge doesn't move, what could be the problem?

This is most likely caused by a faulty temperature sending unit. It is located under the hood, driver's side upper engine area, end of cylinder head and mounted below valve cover. Hope this helped and best wishes.

it would be normal especially since it is a black hood. as long as your temp gauge reads normal then you should be fine.

Temperature gauge problem on a 1987 Samurai

If you disconnect the guage sending unit what happens? Are you sure that there is only one sending unit, many Japanese cars use 2, one for normal zone and one for overheat, the last makes the guage quickly go to hot to alert the driver of a problem before the engine is ruined, let me know what you find.
