Question about 2002 Mazda Tribute

My daughters 2002 Mazda Tributer 3.0 L is getting a PO401 code. Also on cold starts, the engine will not idle or start with out accelerating to give it gas. After it warms up it runs ok.

    Changed the Spark plugs and lower and upper intake gasket. Still will not idle on cold start up until warmed up. I noticed that when parked, I give it gas and let off real quick it acts like it wants to die, after the engine is warmed up. Does this sound like a fuel pump?

SOURCE: For 2003 Mazda Protege ES model 2.0L 4cyl engine;

Check the air inlet boot going from the air filter to the intake for rips or holes. If rips exist, this would allow air to bypass the filter and mass air flow sensor and will lead to a check engine light appearing. The code would read "too lean, bank 1." If this problem is allowed to continue for long periods of time, the EGR ports will have to be cleaned out and maybe even the intake.

Don't waste your time. Have the intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower) replaced. Check all vacuum lines for leaks. Clamp all vacuum hose connections.
Do NOT replace any sensors unless the computer codes indicate.
THIS WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM!

SOURCE: My 2001 Tribute has a very rough idle on cold

Replace the gaskets on the intake manifold. My tribute was doing the same thing. Replace all spark plugs at the same time since the manifold is already off. They found small amounts of oil in my first 2 valves and plugs, but other 4 were dry. My car idles great and runs great now and it was a cold morning today!!! Also go ahead and replace the idle control valve if you like. I had to replace this first in the car with idle problems. Charge for replacing gaskets and plugs and cleaning it up in the cylinders.... $250.00 and it was well worth it! I have a side mechanic and do not go to dealers or other shops in town.

You probably will have to take your Mazda to a mechanic and have everything replaced that you ruined by power washing the engine.

Acts like it isn't getting fuel, chokes out

Do you have an engine light? Throwing a code?
Just does this at idle or when driving/acceleration?
Acting strange changing symptoms (E.G.--idle to acceleration to black smoke out exhaust, etc.)? Plenty of Gas in tank?

I am thinking: No engine light
Clog in fuel filter
intermittent fuel pump problem
A vehicle starting sensor (E.G.--Throttle Position Sensor (TPS))
Main computer
Engine Light: Pull Code
Sensor

2002 liberty 3.7 liter. I have replaced the coil, plugs and injector for cylinder #6. On cold starts I get a ramdom misfire code and engine is missing. If I re-start 3-4 times engine starts up and runs...


If you have Coil- on -Plug you haven't found the bad one yet

Your not always going to get a code that is correct
e.g.PO304,PO305 etc

I would buy the injector from you, as I'm sure that wasn't it,
unless you have an air leak around it

You want no vacuum leaks,a near new EGR Valve,no
air induction tubing leaks

Clean the MAF Sensor with CRC MAF Cleaner

Clean Throttle Plate--CRC Throttle Body Cleaner

You did put anti-sieze on those spark plugs, if not
do so.

How old are the O2 Sensors
More than 80,000 mile,replace the front 2 with OEM
Specific Make--Bosch or NGK etc and not some
cut & splice universal type

My 2002 explorer with v8 engine idles really high when i start it and it shifts really hard and my check engine light stays on sometimes it even idles really low when stopped also the lights dim and fan...


You may want to check for a broken vacume line it will cause a high acceleration. Also have the code extracted and see what it says let me know or post it it would be helpful in giving you a more precise diagnosis.

Hesitation during acceleration


could be the type of plug you are using.I was told only to use ngk plugs.I recently put bosch plugs in my mazda 3 and the check engine light came on and it started missfiring.

sounds like a fuel delivery problem. try cleaning carb.
