SOURCE: where is crankshaft sensor on 99 kia sportage?

The crankshaft pos. sensor is located on the left "driver" side of the engine on the bellhousing and is retained by a single 10mm bolt.The sensor may be tight,be sure to twist as you pull so that it doesnt break off in the bottom end.

SOURCE: oil leaking out of valve cover gasket

It is a Valve Cover Gasket. You can get a new one at any Auto Parts Store. To make this repair last longer, Do not get the Cheap one, Get a Felpro Gasket and it will Quadrupel the Gasket Life. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

SOURCE: rather severe oil leak from the area of the oil filter

I own a '99 Isuzu Oasis, which of course is really and '98 Odyssey with Isuzu nameplate. 214,000 miles, Cranked it up yesterday morning after 20 to 30 degree temps that night....took middle schooler to class approx 3-4 miles from home and approx 1/4 mile from home- noted severe burning oil smell in cabin and smoke from under hood.. Got it home and observed 3-4 quarts of leaked oil on the ground where I had been sitting just 15 mins before. Thought for sure I had ruined the engine after seeing all the oil in the gravel. Could not believe the leak was so severe, considering this car still runs like a beauty and has shown no leaking or other symptoms in the days before this occurred. Got home later that day and checked filter thinking maybe it had loosened. It had not. Refilled engine with oil and noted oil not leaking or dripping but pouring through area at engine block and oil cooler juncture at filter area. Found this forum and a few others on line and followed the plan , AutoZone: loan-a-tool 30mm 1/2" drive socket is all you need to do the job, except of course the oil cooler seal/O-ring which I got at Honda for 3 bucks. Took me all of 45 mins...no need to dettach hoses and leak antifreeze, just unscrew the 30mm nut and remove the old gasket/seal. Be sure to remove all the pieces, Mine was hard and brittle and broken in 3 pieces. What once was rubbery/pliable would now snap like a pretzel due to age/wear. When I buy my next one of these, and I will, because it is the best vehicle I have ever owned ( and I have owned several Hondas and Toyotas) I will preventative replace this seal at approx 150,000 miles.... this was close to being catastrophic failure- Thanks to this forum and others for the advice-plan to put another 100,000 miles on this baby!

Oil Pan - Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable 2 Top intake manifold bracket bolts Front 3 axle housing mounting bolts, 4WD only Left front bushing from the axle housing mount and lower the front axle housing Both gusset plates from the engine Transmission under cover Engine under cover Oil pan mounting bolts and using a scrapper tool separate the oil pan Oil pan Oil strainer assembly Oil baffle 76b1888.jpg

To install:

Fig. Tighten the oil pan bolts in sequence
  1. Clean the engine block, oil pan and baffle pan surfaces of any gasket material.
  2. Apply a continuous bead of Loctite Ultra Blue 587® silicone sealant around the baffle pan.
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil baffle. Torque the bolt to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm). Oil strainer. Torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm).
  4. Apply a continuous bead of Loctite Ultra Blue 587® silicone sealant around the oil pan.

    Oil pan. Torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm). Transmission under cover. Torque the bolts to 84 inch lbs. (9.5 Nm). Gusset plates to the engine. Torque the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm). Engine under cover Front axle housing into position. When properly aligned, torque the bolts to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Intake manifold bracket bolts. Torque the bolts to 34 ft. lbs. (65 Nm). Negative battery cable
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.

An "O" ring can be purchased at your local auto parts along with your oil filter. Your oil filter screws on top of your oil cooler. Mine leaked as well. A new "O" ring and filter screwed on tightly solved my problem.

A transmission oil cooler is a small, finned radiator that circulates warm oil to stabilize the temperature of the transmission. It is normally placed in front of the primary engine coolant radiator, directly in the path of incoming cool air. Hi Missippirebe, I think you should replace the fuel filter and if the problem persists check fuel pump pressure. It should be at around 3.7 bar. Regards John

Your problem will be on the oil seal, mechanical seal and gasket. This oil seal are located near the pulley of the engine or in the transmission . This seal need to replace when your car getting old. In gasket the best way is to replace the this with new the oil pan and the valve cover or did you check your oil filter maybe the it needed to tighten or need to replace. This is a heavy work it need service personnel to do this job because they going to open the engine. Your can still use your car as long as you monitor the oil level.

How change gas filter of a kia sportage 99?


To change the fuel filter on your 1999 Kia Sportage, look under the oil filter in the engine compartment and then pinch the clips on both sides of the fuel lines at the filter. Now, push them toward the filter and then remove the lines and clamp.

There is a gasket that has to be replaced,it can only be found at the dealer.Remove the evap box next to the battery to be able to get to it.

I have oil leaking from the Oil cooler. I cannot find any information on the replacement and troubleshooting of this problem.

Oil leaking from the gasket on the metal piece under oil fltr


Make sure that the oil filter is tight. Usually they only leak if dirt was in the gasket when the filter was installed or the filter wasn't tightened enough.
