Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks

What will cause a dodge 2500 spit and sputter when its cold out but not when its hot out

1 Answer

When hot --your working off the oxygen sensors in closed loop,
for fuel trim or control

I would look at all data with a proessional scan tool before &
after you start it.

Then compare to it 10 min later when above 180 engine temp

Some thing is a miss on start up,could be mechanical also

Keep the oil clean & use synthetic if a gas engine --like MOBIL 1

Would the electronic distributor pickup cause a vehicle to spit, sputter and cut out at a high rate of speed ????

First you can not put Bosch plugs in it. Also watch cheap wires from parts house. Also check fuel pump pressure at high speed. Also watch for Catt converter plugging. Try unscrewing up stream o2 on both sides then drive. If goes away plugged Catt. You can scan those and see fuel values. Then you can tell. Any codes?

Runs good shut off for a few minutes restart runs terrible engine spits and sputters

A bad fuel pump may cause a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l to run for a few minutes and just shut off without sputtering. It can also be that the fuel pressure regulator (on top of fuel pump assembly) is stopped up. Dodge Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year three times.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spits and sputters until warm

TUNE-UP, SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, AIR & FUEL FILTERS, FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER IN TANK, ALSO REPLACE PCV VALVE, & MOST IMPORTANT, REPLACE EGR VALVE, IT GETS TOTALLY CLOGED UP, YOUR ENGINE IS KNOWN FOR THAT. I HAVE A GNC 2500, 3/4 TON. SEEN IT ALL. CHANGE YOUR DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR ALSO. JUST DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!

Check MAP sensor. If PCM gets wrong data from MAP sensor it should offset ignition timing and/or make fuel mixture too lean or too rich.
