Question about Hyundai Elantra

My 2002 hyundai elantra takes 2 or 3 times to start, then runs fine. I have the battery, alternator and starter checked out good. What could be the problem?

All, it seems as though there is some sort of intermittent disconnect. I turn the key and I can hear the fuel pump running then nothing. I turn the key 2 or 3 more times and the car starts up strongly. Could there be something wrong with my ignition switch?

Peter, how could I check to see if the fuel pump is the issue? And would this issue start all of a sudden?

I put in new spark plugs last year. Plus, once it's started, it runs fine.

Hyundai Elantra keeps dying despite my electronics being off.

Does the car crank slowly, or the starter clicks when you attempt to start it? If the alternator or voltage regulator is bad, the battery would continue to lose energy and appear to be bad. Alternators need to be fed voltage since they don't have magnets to excite the windings. On my Volvo, sometimes the indicator lights don't come on when I turn the ignition on, before actually cranking the engine. When this happens, I know from experience that the battery won't charge. Do you get any dash lights showing a problem?

You can check the voltage at the battery when the engine is running; it should be well over 12 volts if charging.

If a trunk, glove compartment or interior light is on, that can run the battery down too.

I have a 2002 Hyandai Elantra. It has been dying overnight while parked and nothing is left on. The battery is good I've had it tested. It runs fine.after being jumped but after turning it off it won't...

you have a short in a wire. Best way to trouble shoot this is with a meter on the battery . Pull out on Fuse at a time until the Draw on the battery stops. Then see what that fuse operates and go from there.

Sometimes my hyundai wont start elantra coupe 1998

Check connection to starter. Might need to replace starter. I'd start by checking connection's and make sure tight.

01 Hyundai Elantra. Got battery tested and was told it was good. When attempting to start. All you could hear is a clicking sound? Is it the Starter? Immobilizer? Crank Sensor?

The battery's job is to supply power to the starter. After that, the alternator takes over and runs the rest of the system, including keeping the battery charged. If the alternator is bad, it can no longer charge the battery. Since you already had the battery tested, have the alternator tested. If that is not the issue, then have the starter checked. The gears inside might be binding or the solenoid might be bad.

2003 Hyundai Elantra alternator will not charge battery. Both bench tested and are in good working order. Alternator will not keep car going, if started. checked fuses, and all are good. Put full charge...

If you have replaced the alternator and the battery has been checked and showed to be in good working condition then the only thing left is either a bad fusable link or cable (negative or psitive) going from battery to engine. You should inspect these cables and there connections. Corrosion on these connections can cause these problems. You also mention that the alternator will not keep car running. It should when you disconnect the negative battery cable while the engine is running. If all connections and cables are good and you haven't replaced alternator then you should do so.

I have a 2002 hyundai elantra I have replaced the alternator and got a new battery well it ran for one day then while driving it the next day there was a big clunk like something fell out of the motor then...

crank sensor will cause similar stalling issues. You may have got a bad alternator, if the battery light is on after you jump it, probably needs a new, new alternator. make sure all your connections are tight and plugged in, both on battery and alternator.

Elantra will not start-tried jumpers- works 1 time only afterward

Take it to a garage and have them check the starter motor, alternator and battery. This problem sounds like it could be a seized starter motor but it could be a dead battery.
