I have a 68 Chevelle with what I believe is a 4speed saginaw trans. I'm looking to find out more about what year the trans is from, and for what car originally. From the looks of it the number below the GM stamp appears to be 3925656. Please let me know if you can help, thanks!

You know I'm not sure. The man I bought it off of told me it was a saginaw. It is a 4 speed. What do you think?

What year is this engine? and ci

From this chart - I think you may be misreading the number - 3970010 is possibly the actual number: Which makes the engine pretty old 68-72 350 V8 - 4 bolt main. I included past this number so that you can see that the number you posted doesn't actually exist. And thus my conclusion that the 9 is most likely a 0. I have a1968 chevelle with a 396 engine i recently changed the oil in it and went to syntheced oil and my lifters seem realy loud whould this be the problem

Since you replaced a valve spring you know how.. I would replace them all since one broke.. I think this car is a hydrolic lifter.. you may not have adjusted them correctky.. possibly buy new lifters, and springts from Summit racing or Jegs.. and replace them all .. this is not a very costly repair if you are doing the labor. When you have it apart look at the top of the valve that hits the rocker are.. you are looking for wear and cracks.. Look at each rocker arm looking for the same.. Please post a comment and let us know what you find..

Trans slipping in to 2nd... possible linkage assembly?

I'm sorry ---but any transmission that is slipping usually
has been doing so longer than you recognized it

The only fix is a complete rebuild when the slip

Slipping is from not changing the fluid every 3 years or
30,000 miles. It breaks down from the heat & so goes
your clutches & the slipping begins. Not a secret,it is
pretty well know fact of the last 55 years or so

One fluid change in 120,000 miles & your near the end
of a trans life expectancy, some keep going, not many

On the yearly side, you can go 3 years or 18 years,
seldom without fresh fluid & very gentle driving habits

I believe yours is electronic & no cable to adjust
You can look next to the throttle but you'll never get
that spot that will stop slipping

Change the fluid now & it will slip for sure

No additives ever go into a trans, just the correct fluid

68 camero hurst 4speed shifer adjustment

I can't imagine how you couldn't figure that out?

Have to set the stop for the throw correctly

Needs to be washed out in solvent, so it works
smoothly & spray small amout of lube on everything

I have a saginaw 4 speed that i would like to put in a 73 camaro. The motor is a 350 with about 360 hp. the car has 410 gears.I have heard this transmission is not very strong is this true? if this is true...

I had a Saginaw 4 Speed in a 1970 Chevelle with a 396 bored out to 409 and a cam. I took a couple of stock clutches out of it but never hurt the tranny. I used it for a daily driver and some "street fun" for about a year and a half until I spun a bearing, but that's another story ( read Stupid). Hope this helps.

It sounds like a governer issue, like the nut has came off the governer. Get a junk trans look for a round cup shaped cover pop it off and look at the springs and how they re fixed to the flyweights then ck yours, so you know what your looking at..

As weird as this sounds, take off the alternator and take it in for testing. Sounds like it is leaking AC into your electrical system. If this is help, please post as so. If it is so, please post as fixya. TY
