Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

2000 civic ex iac issues my check engine light is on. its reading p0505. I have been fighting this for 2 months. i found the knock sensor broken and the wire grounded to the valve cover..replaced that. i have replaced the iac twice, ecu, pcv valve, had the induction cleanse done, plugs and wires, I've replaced the intake and exhaust gaskets and the problem is still this: erratic idle, jerky throttle response, bucking at desired speed, loss of power, smell of antifreeze and exhaust or oil inside the cabin. i can turn the car off and restart and the issue goes away for several miles then it comes back. it idles high and then the engine light comes on and it runs like ****. no oil in water or water in oil, can't find a vacuum leak anywhere, car does not overheat. please help!!!

    adding: the cel comes on after i reset and start the car for the second time. once the car warms up the idle raises and a slight whine can be heard. when you barely give it gas it acts like a rev limiter cutting in and out very rapidly but if you give it enough gas to get over the 1500rpm mark it revs ok.

SOURCE: Erratic Idle - When starts the idle is about 1100 RPM as it warms up, it goes to 700 - 400 RPM

Have you "reset" the computer on the car. When parts are replaced, the comp continues to run the vehicle on all the old settings which can drive you nuts because nothing you do will fix a problem. Usually, taking both battery cables off and waiting for 15 minutes will reset the computer. If this does not do it, then ask a dealer how to reset yours.

Vehicle idle very low code p0505 said idle system control problem what part can b bad and check engine light is on

Causes: Potential causes of an P0505 code include:
* IAC motor connector is damaged (check connector and pins for damage, and moisture)
* One or more IAC circuits open or shorted to ground
* One or more IAC circuits are shorted to voltage
* IAC has failed
* PCM has failed

Possible Solutions:
* This should be a fairly straightforward diagnosis. Start by clearing the fault codes. Then unplug the IAC and start the engine (This may cause other IAC codes to set. Just ignore them for now). If the P0505 code doesn't reset, replace the IAC. It is internally shorting one of the IAC circuits. If the code DOES return after unplugging the IAC and starting the engine, then you know it isn't the IAC motor. Visually check the wiring harness all the way back to the PCM. You may need to visually inspect the harness by removing all the insulation off the wires. It is possible that the wires could be shorting to eachother or to other wires in the harness.

* If there are no wiring problems, and the code keeps returning with the IAC unplugged, you can check the PCM by removing the IAC wires from the PCM connector (or clipping the wires in a location where they can be repaired easily) and then start the engine (If you're not sure, don't do it. Take it to a qualified professional). Now if the code doesn't reset there is a problem with the wiring. Check for continuity on all the IAC wires. Any resistance points to a problem. Check for voltage on any(At this point there shouldn't be any voltages on the wires because they're clipped at one end and unplugged at the IAC). Repair as necessary. But if the P0505 code DOES reset after removing the IAC wires from the PCM connector(or clipping them), replace the PCM, there's a problem internally on the IAC control circuit.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this).

Iac location on my 1999 honda odyssey?after engine warms up-idle runs up and down from 900-2100 rpms.problem occurred instantly.scanned engine vaccum leaks.

The IAC is located under the throttle body.

k42282_17.jpg But check the Power Steering Pressure sensor wire first. The wires are known to break at the sensor harness and cause idle problem. if it's broken then repair it first. Look from under car view.

I have a 2000 civic honda, the check engine light is on , the code that came up is P0325

p0325 is referring to the knock sensor. normally it's not the sensor itself but the wiring, connector, or the signal is missing. the sensor might be bad. here's a honda forum thread that discusses knock sensors.

Engine Code P0505

After the IAC is replaced it is not enough to clear the code you must also reset the IAC learned adaptive. To do this you will need a higher end scanner like snap-on or such.

Honda Civic 2000 EX

the idle air control valve should be checked for operation both mechanically and electrically, it could be defective. cost depends on which trans you have auto around $230.00 for the part, manual around $150.00 for the part. at those prices I would be darn sure it has a problem before replacement, or find one from a salvage yard in better shape.

1999 Honda Civic EX fault codes 1366 and 1399

This code is not documented so the code reader is giving a false reading.
If the car runs OK and check engine light is not on, I would forget about it.
