2010 ford focus se code po741

Code po741 on 2010 ford focus se & trans drops out of overdrive & jerks changing gears. stop car- cut off & restart engine-- & trans shifts smooth for about 10 miles, then shifts jerky & will not go in overdrive. rekey restart engine & trans works o.k. for about 10 more miles

I would try a flush. If its set up like my 96, and it likely is, changing the trasmission gasket and filter will be difficult. Mine has a medal plug on the bottom and takes an allen wrench, and possibly a breaker bar. If you take out this plug, drain, flush then refill via the dipstick tube and a funnel, it may help. You may need to do this a couple of times due to fluid still in the torque converter, pan, etc.
Lucas is good stuff, I would add it again when I was done. The tranny fluid should be pink, mine looked like used oil black before I flushed it.
Also, when adding the new fluid, shift slowly up and down through all of the gears to lube well and check your fluid levels after 100 miles or so, as sometimes a bubble will form and make it look full....then not after it pops.

DTC P0734 is "4th gear incorrect ratio" - that's your torque converter 'LOCK UP Clutch" It's worn out (or you're using the wrong Trans Fluid required by Hyundai - SPIII OR Both). The P1624 is simply the Trans Control Unit (computer) communicating to the Engine Control Module (ECM computer) MIL - on request signal to ECM = asking it to turn on "Check Engine" light. MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp. When the torque converter 'lock up" clutch slips or doesn't engage, the trans automatically returns to 3rd gear and stays there (it's called 'fail safe' mode) until you cycle the ignition key, then everything resets until the malfunction occurs again.
You'll need to have an AT (Automatic Transaxel) tester hooked up to verify this. Hyundai has a Service Bulletin specifically for "gear incorrect ratio' codes. If when you changed the trans fluid, was it done at a Hyundai Service Center? If not, someone may have installed the wrong fluid.

I would pull it & rebuild it

Not worth diagnosing the PO741 TCC issue as long as there
is metal, it is thru out the entire unit.

Nothing special about that trans because it is in a euro car

They use Gm Trans & the US Mfg uses Euro, across some vehicle lines & models

If you have been using it like that for a week or more
your going to end up rebuilding the trans

4R70E trans problems
I would think you would have gotten the codes &
diagnosed within a day or two,with a trans not doing
so is a death sentence
Have you changed the fluid every 3 years 30,000 miles
since it was new & on all your vehicles,their pretty much
done out of the gate if you haven't

You Tube Video to get any & all trans answers,
& see all the problems & watch the units being rebuilt
I would guess on a 2001 car that trans is coming
out & be rebuilt

Shifts hard and jerks under hard acceleration.


thottle positioning sensor? if trans has overdrive could be a lock up piece, dont remember name of it. there is a lucas oil product that might help. if it is the overdrive.
