Correct - it's an issue with an O2 sensor. Just adding reinforced support to my colleague.

    WHAT ABOUT CODES: P1870,P0420

  • Anonymous Nov 28, 2012

I would scope it but you can only change it The rear or monitor sensors don't fail often I suggest replacing the front ones at 100,000 miles & your rear one only when they fail At this point do them all & get from Rock Auto.Com Brand names & cheaper then parts stores

It gets better? Well the PO420 isn't good & your at 12 plus years,so now we know why you got the 137. You have a worn out exhaust converter 12 to 14 years is the end for them So the rear sensor may be okey & just reporting a bad converter Any more secrets?

My96 Pontiac firebird starts but wont stay running

How long since a tune-up? Check for applicable trouble codes. To check codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd2 code reader.

Why does my 89 firebird run better with the maf sensor unplugged

For one thing, the engine computer goes into limp mode when a sensor is unhooked, and that causes it to stop using all of the data from the sensors. It uses known good values instead.
Did you check the computer for trouble codes ?

How do i manually read trouble codes on 1995 firebird formula with 5.7 v 8 motor lt 1

you have to use a scan tool. You can not manually read them<you need a OBDII reader. you can get one at the auto parts store, They cost about $75-$200 or more for one. auto zone and some of the other auto parts stores will read them for free..
