SOURCE: Gas tank won't fill

Only place the filler nozzle in half or a quarter of the way in. I don't think it's your car, just safety device on filler nozzle. The same things happens with my Ford truck.

Hello, I may have an idea, the tank is not venting. Consider a gas can pouring without the vent open. Its slow, and needs to displace air to pour correctly.

On some fuel systems there are vent solenoids for the evaporator cannister. The vacuum is suppose to draw excess fumes after the engine starts. Its not suppose to keep vacuum while fueling. You may also have a tank hung crooked. If the low side of the tank is on the fuel fill, you will never get gas to go uphill to where the cavity is on the tank. Simply you are trying to fill the tank from the bottom instead of the top.

You may need to rehang the tank. If you are not the original owner of the truck you may want to check to see if this is the correct tank or an extended range aftermarket tank.

I have trouble filling gas tank on my 13 F-250 pump shuts off takes forever to fill. What might cause this?

The system not venting properly is usually the most common source of this issue. Check filler tube/vent tube for any restrictions. Also try keeping pump nozzle part way out of filler tube.If no restrictions found, possible defective tank vent valve on top of tank. Tank will usually have to be removed to access this valve

Is difficult to fill gas tank

Gas pump nozzles have a device in the end that when gasoline runs back up into it, it turns off the fuel flow." There's a tiny hole near the bottom of the gas pump nozzle connected to a small tube.
Normally, air flows through that tube while you're filling and the gas keeps flowing as long as you hold down on the trigger. When that hole gets covered by gasoline (when your tank is full), a vacuum forms inside the nozzle and an automatic shutoff switch gets tripped, turning off the flow of gas with a thunk. Next time your fueling up try to reposition the nozzle.

When pumping gas in a 2000 hyundai it the nozzle keeps cutting off . it take forever to fill the gas tank up

i`m guessing that you have tried to install the nozzle in different places in the filler neck while filling the car.if this you have tried then you may have a bad vent valve that is not working properly causing excess air pressure in the fuel tank shutting off the nozzle.have a shop check this out for you.

When trying to fill my gas tank on my 2002 pathfinder, the pump nozzle keeps shutting off like the tank is full, takes forever to fill tank.is this a vent problem?

It very well could be.

Check the vent line coming from the tank to make sure its not crimped off or obstructed.

This may not be a do it yourself check, any good mechanic can check it out for you.

Having problem with trying to gas up the elantra. gas pump handle keeps clicking off. have to squeeze handle real lightly to fill up tank takes a long time to fill up. help

I know you probably won't like my answer, but seeing as I am a service tech for gas stations, the nozzle has a safety feature which shuts/kicks off when gas splashes back into the nozzle, thus keeping the gas from running over when the car is unattended and nozzle is locked. You can try pulling the nozzle back til it is barely in the tank or try a different gas station as some nozzles are different. As it is the shape of the fill tube on your vehicle. Hope this helped Tim

Can't get gas into my 2002 Hyundai Accent.

The reason the gas station pump shuts off is when the fuel reaches the tip of the gas nozzle, so when you are filling your car and the gas nozzle (gas stations pipe) keeps shutting off it means that the pipe that runs to the gas tank is not open completely, what happens is when you pump the gas in the car the supply pipe from the gas tank opening to the tank fills up quickly and this causes the gas station pipe nozzle to shut off, have some body take down the gas tank and have a look at the gas tank opening and also gas supply pipe that runs from the gas filler opening ( on the car body) to the gas tank. Have a look at it and please don't forget to rate the answer if it was helpful, thanks!

Won't take gas

don't insert nozzle in fill hole so deep. It is not getting the air it needs to vent out while your fillinh the tank. Also start off slow on filling the tank, so that the air will start coming out while gas is going into your gas tank. like is said, the tank isnot venting fast enough, to let the gas come into the tank.
