Question about 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe
2001 Hyundai Santa Fe. When I put gas in the car it stutters and doesn't want to start. I have to rev the engine to feed it gas and go right away and then it stays running. If i don't rev the engine enough it dies right away. Last week it reacted the same way when I tried to start it at home. Today it started sputtering when I came to a stop and when I started accelerating from a stop. In idle it still stutters but when I put it in neutral at a stop it runs much better.
There are a few thing that could cause this to happen, the first thing is that you need to make sure the check engine light is not on, if it is or not still have the computer scanned for any codes, the computer is always watching the operation of the engine and if there is a problem it will store a code and turn check engine light on to warn you of the problem, the code will come out as a set of letters and numbers and tell you were the problem is. it will not tell you whats wrong but just the component that is failing and then with some testing the problem can be found.
the sputtering you speak off could be due to a coil that is bad and causing engine to misfire, or even a vacuum leak or spark plug.
There are many auto part stores that will scan the computer for free and give you the codes, start by having the codes read and then write me back with the codes. Here is an example of a code, let say code po301 cyl 1 misfire , came up as one of the codes.
As you can read it tells you that cylinder # 1 is misfiring, then we would check the coil for that cylinder and the sprak plug first.
make sure to get the complete code, good day.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 hyundai santa fe. when driving it the check engine light comes on and when trying to acclerate the car seems like to don't want to go or it's running on 2 cyclinders only. Any id
In most cases, its an O2 sensor, they go from $20-$100 and its very easy to replace

SOURCE: 2004 hyundai santa fe parked it
The 04 Santa Fe came with three different engines. 4 cylinder (2.4 lit), and two different V6's (2.7 lit & 3.5 lit). The 2.4 & 2.7 use throttle cables connected directly to the throttle plate, but the 3.5 uses ETS (Electronic Throttle System) which uses two sensors (APS & TPS) and a control module (ETSCM). APS=Accelerator Position Sensor, TPS=Throttle Position Sensor, ETSCM= Electronic Throttle System Control Module. There are different diagnostic procedures for each system.
Go to www.hmaservice.com and register your vehicle by VIN #.. you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop manuals, service bulletins, campaigns, illustrations and procedures, etc.

We went through this with ours recently. Hyundai diagnosed it as a bad crank shaft position sensor. We replaced it and we're up and running again. Not sure why the damp weather affected it but it did.
