Oil pressure is still reading high even though I just changed the filter and oil.

A high oil pressure reading is a good thing, low oil pressure is something to worry about. Normally with a cold start, your oil pressure will remain high until the engine has reached operating temperature, then drop a bit, but again, high oil pressure readings are a good sign of a healthy engine. One other factor to consider is the viscosity of your oil, if your engine uses 5w30 and you switch it to a higher viscosity such as 10w40, you may also see higher oil pressure readings, so be sure you are using the correct oil for your vehicle. I hope this has helped you! :)

I just bought a '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the oil press. indicator is always on H. I heard the engine during idle making a "clancking" sound which i heard before in cars with the wrong oil type...

I would recommend changing the oil and filter, using the correct oil. It's possible the wrong oil could cause the noise. Wait and see if the oil change has any effect on the oil pressure reading. If it doesn't, change the oil pressure switch or sending unit.

The oil pressure warning light is on with a wrench showing beside it. I just changed the oil and there are no leaks. Oil pressure is 45 on the pressure gauge. What is causing the light to stay on even...

Its hard to say for sure but chevy uses the oil pressure sending unit as a back up power system for the fuel pump so if the fuel pump relay blows out power will go to the pump through to oil pressure unit so even though the gage is working it could be a problem inside the oil pressure uint for this secondery back up fuel pump system. Dose the gage stay at 45 PSI when the light is on or drop down when the ignition is turned off if it holds pressure i would look at the pressure sending unit its probably not giveing a correct reading not to say you have an problem with your oil pressure its to new for that but you need to be able to trust the reading

The oil pressure gage started registering 1/4 instead of it's normal 1/2 even at 1700 rpm. I FREAKED! Thoughts?

I have an oil pressure gauge that reads in analog, 0 to 150? something like that, any way, it moves like a tachometer, idle down around 10, revs up to 55, 60 when taking off and then settles down at 35 while cruising, I notice a change with heavier oil. Also, I know it will read 55 lbs pressure with 1 qt of oil in there, I tried it. So the pressure gauge has nothing to do with amount of oil in engine. As long as it is full, It should be ok, as long as it is reading pressure, but if the pressure drops off, shut it down and find out what happened, If it loses all the oil, the temp light should come on long before the oil light.

I have a 1992 El Dorado. It runs like a TOP! It has just over 182,000 miles. I took it for an oil change and now, at low idle, the "LOW OIL PRESSURE / STOP ENGINE" comes on. I took it back and...

I would check the wiring between the oil pressure sensor and the computer. The computer is reading low or no pressure, hence the warning light. If your mechanic is telling the truth about the pressure and the pressure sensor is good, that is the only thing it could be.

Low oil pressure after engine warms up in 94 blazer with 4.3

I have a 99 blazer and ever since I have owned it, it reads lower in pressure when idling, but will go up too 40 while driving. This is normal for the vehicle. If the pressure gets real low, and stays low, it means its time for an oil change.

As long as the pressure goes up when you give it gas, it is fine.

High oil pressure

You can't go by the gage on the dash, you need to hook up a manifold gage to get an accurate reading. Did you check the oil filter bypass valve AKA oil relief valve?

Oil pressure gauge

Low oil pressure is generally caused by internal engine bearing wear, not a "bad" oil pump... Pumps become "bad" when debris from a failed component gets into it, causing damage. (exception being pressure regulator spring/plunger assembly becoming clogged with gunk in engines that do not get proper maintenance; likely not your case)
Were there any tapping noises coming from engine when pressure was low? If not, The most common problem is the pressure sending unit, sending bad info to the warning light. If passage going to it or internal passage is gunked up, this problem usually disappears when oil is changed. sometimes the sender just goes bad, in which case, change it.
To get a proper diagnosis on your problem, have someone put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it. This will read the actual oil pressure and will tell you a lot about the condition of your engine!
I have never seen a valve job that corrected any oil pressure problem. I mistrust anyone who would even think that!!!
Mlinimum low pressure at idle is 15 psi Max is about 60psi running (higher can explode an oil filter) A reading of 15psi indicates the beginning of a problem. although considered "safe" it is not good.
