How do you replace the serpentine belt on an 05 chevy trailblazer

There should be a square hole in the tensioner. Stick a 3\8 drive rachet in the hole or rent tne tenioner tool from advanced auto parts. Push down on the tool and take the old belt off.BE CAREFULL NOT TO LET THE TENSIONER SNAP BACK ON YOU EASE IT BACK. Installing the new belt is just the reverse operation. There should be a diagram of the belt placement on the shroud. If not the diagram will come with the new belt

I need help 2006 gran prix 5.3 serpentine belt ....... The belt broke and I can't get the new one on ......I can't get a socket on the tensioner at least what I think is the tensioner lol I need a sol

there is a tool that is used, i think with a long rachet and small extension you can do the belt, there should be a square hole where the end of the tool or extension goes into and then pull clockwise to release the tension, look closely at tensioner housing for the hole. i have enclosed a few pics of the tool and the tensioner. the picture of the belt diagram is there also, hope this helps.11_17_2012_9_08_07_pm.gif11_17_2012_9_08_21_pm.jpg11_17_2012_9_08_37_pm.jpg11_17_2012_9_09_07_pm.gif

The instructions I have for insalling the tensioner say "The tensioners are equipped with a square hole on the tensioner to rotate the tensioner arm for installation. A 1/2" socket driver wrench...

Yes, you use a long 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar
in the 1/2" square hole to release the belt tension

Don't need torque specs

I doubt you even own a torque wrench

Trying to install new serpentine drive belt. Doesn't look like alternator is adjustable. There is a belt tensioner but I can't get quite enough play out of it. Can't really get a tool on it to hold it...

Some of the parts are hard to see. You should have a square hole in the belt tensioner fixture. This would fit either a 3/8 drive rachet or a 1/2 drive rachet. You will put the rachet or breaker bar in the square hole and push against the spring tension.

A trick to installing the belt is not to use the belt tensioner as the last pulley to slide the belt over. Put the belt over the tensioner and use your body weight to push against it. Then slide the belt over the last uncovered pulley and let off your weight on the tensioner.

How to put a idler/tensioner pulley on

remove accessory belt ,remove center bolt holding pulley to front of eng. likely to be a 9/16 or a 5/8. To install new one, make sure you line up the dowl pin to the hole, install bolt. To reinstall belt will require either a 3/8 or 1/2 in. drive rachet or breaker bar to reduce tension allowing belt to slide on.

Cant ajust tensioner pully

You have a (spring loaded) tensioner. I usually use a rachet and whatever size socket the bolt requires and use a 2 foot hollow pole as a pull handle.. Put the socket and rachet on the bolt, slip the pole over the handle of the rachet and push the tensioner back which will give you the slack room you need to install the belt. Make sure you have the belt around all the other pulley's so it will be a easier to slip it on to your tensioner. This tensioner should adjust itself by spring action.

How do you adjust tension for drive belt

first you need to figure out if you have an automatic tensioner or an adjustable one. so look at the pullies which ones are not accesories (ie not an alternator pully, power steering.) some pullies will just be on there own not driving anything. is this pully connected to something like this O>o <--this end is the pully.
pully mounting bolt ^ ^arm with hole for rachet
or does it look like the pully is attached to a threaded pole.

the auto adjuster need a rachet to pull back on it (because it's spring loaded) while you install the new belt.

the other need the nut on the pully loosened and the threaded pole loosened will move the pully removing tension from the belt (opposite will tension the new belt).

tighten belt until you can only twist it in half.

Need to replace serpentine belt on 2001 tracker cannot find adjustments to loosen belt. thanks .

You should see a spring loaded tensioner, usually right by the pulley you will see a square hole to insert a rachet, pull back and remove the belt.it might be helpful to have a friend to hold the rachet with the tension off the belt.Be careful if the rachet slips, there is a lot of tension on the spring and you could get hurt, watch your hands, don't put fingers between belt and pulleys
