Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 2003 vw jetta 1.8t and every time I shift into gear (no matter what gear) it jerks then as I step on the gas I can feel a vibration no matter how fast or slow I go. You can hear the vibration and feel it when driving and I don't know what it is. Fly wheel? Clutch? Need to know ASAP

SOURCE: 02 jetta w/auto train will not change out of low gear

You'll have to get it checked. Its going into limp mode. When this happens you have third gear and reverse. Its to get you somewhere to get it fixed. You can damage the tranny worse driving a lot while its like that

You need a safety inspection done on your car asap. What you are describing is very dangerous and can injure or kill someone. I would also recommend towing it to be inspected.

SOURCE: 01 VW Jetta Vibration Problem

Check the motor mounts. They might be worn or loose which can cause vibration felt when the engine is reved up or running at higher rpms than at idle.

Not uncommon for the MkIV to have transmission problems; have your mechanic change the fluid and filter, and at the same time check the shift solenoids and the connecting harness - internal parts.
I got 2 TDIs and had both of them run into very similar problems. Make sure your mechanic is using the correct fluid type and filter!

Engine revving up when shifting gears and jerking hard

Really !!!

You have no idea after all those issues that the
transmission is completely worn out?

If it had any chance of repair, you rode it to it's
grave knowing you could hear & feel things

Hard shifting

after checking oil level in auto box(top line on dipstick in "P")try this, without using any gas at all,put into drive and let car reach max speed (about 30/35).then using half gas do the same, without moving your right foot, then if safe do the same, with full gas.as the gearbox is computer controlled, you have just reset the shift pattern back to its start position. The car will now change according to your driving style,(if multi user,it will take about 50m to read your style again)
if driven hard it will change hard.......
any help??

Shop for a rebuilt transmission, or get an estimate from AAMCO for a rebuild job, but it won't be cheap. Get at least 3 estimates before you decide how to proceed. Good luck.
