The car will run fine for about 10 minutes then it will stop accelerating???

THe alternator has been replaced and the car does not loose power it just slows down and stops. I can turn the car off and wait about 10 minutes and it will work again for 10 minutes. This is very dangerous when driving in city traffic. Please help!

I just experienced a very similar problem with my son's car. He would be driving car would die couldn't restart, lost brakes, power steering. After about 10-15 mins car would start and run fine for a period of time until all of a sudden would happen again. It was his clutch relay switch. Also, as you are stating that is how his started slowing down and stopping at first..just a thought to get checked out...

I would guess that it is a new problem not related
to the alternator unless that was a bad rebuilt part

Start over & road test at a shop with you driving
& have them diagnose

Check fuel pressure, pump volumn & current etc
the fuel pump may be failing

ENGINE HESITATES WHILE ACCELERATION

LOSS OF ACCELERATION

It can be fuel pressure issue or it's the problem with accelerator pedal or its clogged filters causing there.

There are many other possibilities. I suggest you to go through the list of help links mentioned below, these will help you to confirm where the actual fault lies: -------

Backfiring and looses power when i accelerate

When you shut the car off for one minute and restart the engine. How long before the symptoms reappear? My first two guesses would be to check out the EGR valve and the fuel filter. Please write back with more specific information. The more information, the better. I don't know what tools and test equipment you have. Depending on what you write back, find, or fix. You may need to run more tests to narrow down the search. What year is your Rodeo? Can you have the codes read? The codes can be very helpful in diagnosing the problem. Good luck.

Momentarily Sluggish Acceleration

Are you loosing power to the ecu when the car is shut down? most cars with an ECU that controls timing, fuel, or boost can be forced to relearn the car if the ECU looses power (called a "limp" mode). I'd look into this. Also are you getting any check engine lights? considering the description of the problem, this would help to diagnose. Try getting the car started and running normally, then turn the car off but do not kill the power to the car, just stop the motor from running...Fire the engine back up and try to give the car a good stomp on the gas and see if you get the same sluggish problems...my 2 cents... Good luck future auto DIY's
