Question about 2003 Hummer H2
2003 Hummer H2. Last yr my key would not come out of the ignition. the tumbler would not make the final click to remove the key. The tumbler was changed and it was fine for a yr or so. Now the key won't turn on. The key slides in and out of the cylinder, but won't turn. I wiggled the shifter and turned the steering wheel but no luck... it wouldn't turn. There has been a common issue for the past 2 yrs... sometimes when i turn the truck on, the radio and CD player don't work (no lights at all). I turn the truck off for a few minutes and retry and it works fine. This sounds like an ignition sensor to me but I need some more advice. lately the electronic driver seat won't adjust forward/backwards/ tilt/recline/up/down. However when I turn the vehicle on / off, the seat memory always works and restores it. so it isn't a seat motor issue. (I am not too worried about the seat adjustment but thought it might be some good data to help diagnose the problem). Yesterday when out of the blue and for no reason, the key turned and the vehicle started as if there was nothing wrong. It was raining here yesterday, could that be an issue? The local shop plugged in the diagnostic equipment and it said "ignition sensor".(I think it was code B1440 but not 100% sure) Is this an easy fix? do i need to bring it to the dealer or can my local mechanic fix it(i.e. does something have to be programmed)? does it sound like an ignition sensor that fails to see that the vehicle is in park (key would not turn off last yr) or the key is in the ignition (yesterday) and the sensor is not operating correctly (radio is not recognized)
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

i think the seat control unit controls both items. check the connections at this unit to see if they are still securely attached to the unit.
i didn't know your exact model as i could not find the 08 528i and didn't know if yours was LH or RH drive. take a look at the pic and look for box #1 under the seat.

Sounds like an antitheft problem I would start with the antitheft system. Usually when you only have one key all keys have to be programmed together even the original. When you have more than one it is easy to program additional keys.

SOURCE: This morning when I attempted
Hello:Try this procedure: turn key on, turn to start, let key come back to on wait ten minutes, turn key off wait 10 seconds turn key back on wait 10 minutes. turn key off wait 10 seconds turn key back on wait 10 minutes turn key off wait 10 seconds NOW try and start. In addition you might try tapping on switch assembly while trying to start. There is not any way to disable passlock. You might try having the engine control system codes read

Hello Stacy, My name is Mike. I am thrilled that you choose
me to help you with your problem. I am sorry, it took me a few hours to get back
to you. I have been helping other customers. Here is where I am with this on
your cranking and not starting issue. Oh, by the way great job on your part
eliminating some of the other potential suspects.
First of all, I try and tackle the easiest things first,to
see if we get lucky.
Pull the start/run
relay out for a couple minutes, then put it back in and reset it might reset the
passlock box and start right up.
Now, why did I say that? I believe your problem is with your
Passlock indicator.( which has to do with your anti theft system)The way I just
described is a 50/50 chance to have it work, but don't worry. I always have a
plan B and C.
Here is some questions to your symptoms: Stay with me now,
wait for it.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON
(vehicle will not start).
Observe the SECURITY light, after approximately 11 minutes
the light will turn OFF.
Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 10 seconds.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3
cycles/30 minutes ( the vehicle
is now ready to relearn the Sensor Data Code and/or passwords
on the next ignition switch transition from OFF
Important: The vehicle learns the relearns Sensor Data Code
and/or password on the next ignition switch
transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF
before attempting to start the vehicle.
Start the engine (the vehicle has now learned the Sensor Data
Code and/or password).
Here is Plan C as promised, but I personally would not
suggest, Even though GMC offers a bypass procedure.
Link for a Bypass Solution:
Plan D, would be have to check into possibility of bad ECM,
but lets hope that is just a worst case scenario.
Thanks So Much,Mike. Please Keep Me Informed of progress.
