take off the cover on the top and bottom of the steering column just behind the wheel. pop the tilt lever out simply just by grabbing it and give it a good tug. then once you have the new switch and you get in there your going to need an inverted torx socket to remove the small bolts that hold the switch to the column. do not move the gear on the new switch make sure it lines up exactly as the old one did!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: Draining Battery on 1996 Ford Contour

you will need to do a test with a battery light disconnect the negative wire on the battery and connect one end of the test light to the battery and the other to the terminal with everything switched off if the test light is lit you have a draw if it is not lit then it is something else sometimes door switches and glove box switches wear out and need added lift to properly shut the open circuit down

Hey i am having a problem with power being drawing and killing my battery as well as killing cells in the battery ?? i have a new alternator and new battery. This is my third battery !!

You need to check for a draw. This can be done with a volt meter capable of reading amperage or a low amp probe.

If you have either of these I can help you further. Just let me know.

2001 GMC Seirra 2500HD Duramax Drained Batteries

The problem is that there is a short circuit or any accessory is consuming energy that you can try a test lamp will turn the power tongs place the lamp in the positive cable must be disconnected and the tip of the lamp at the terminal the battery if the light intensity lamp is lit with a power consumption because if this happens remove fuse fuse when you turn the call light is the circuit that is causing you problems. Thanks

I'm installing a gps tracking unit on one of our landscape trucks. It's a 97 gmc/chevy 2500. I need to connect it to the ignition(12v dc) and constant power (12v dc)

Whenever I add accessories to our trucks at work,I always go directly to the battery with an in line fuse somewhere in the circuit. This keeps from draining power from any thing else on the vehicle.Since this will be a low power drain, you may want to look at your fuse panel and see if there is an empty fuse holder marked accessories and use that. Some vehicles have 2 one that is on with the key and one that is always hot. Good luck!

1997 gmc sierra battery wont stay charged. Alternator and battery have been tested. What else could it be...fuseible link. If so where do I find it?

I suggest you hook up 12 V digital multitester to the battery running & get your voltage. Next stop the truck & get the voltage leaving it connected & you should see the voltage steadily dropping. Then, take off the Negative cable & hook up the tester again to the 2 post of the battery & see if the voltage drops as before, or has stabilized. That will tell you if the truck is draining the battery for sure of if you have a bad cell. If it is the truck, you will need to go through troubleshooting the entire vehicle by eliiminating all use of current and gradually hooking things back up. IE: disconnect main fuses/breakers & see what happens on the tester. Then start connecting 1 item at a time & see what is requiring power or if you have a short. You should eventually find the culprit even if you have to remove fuses and test each time. An additional tester that test amperes without penetrating the wiring is helpful in finding the drain. Normally in the auto-parts stores. I just lay mine over the wiring & follow the voltage until I find the wiring leading to the one using the power or that is shorted. Good Luck.

How do you install an alternator 95 gmc sierra 1500

1] disconnect the positive battery cable. 2] remove the serpentine belt.  you need a socket wrench to remove the tension from the idler arm pulley. 3]disconnect the battery wire from the alternator, and unclip the other smaller wire from the other side of the alternator. 4] remove the bolts that hold the alternator to the engine. 5]install the new one in the reverse order hope this helps

Battery gets drained sporadically.

The large fusible link goes to the positve battery terminal on the back of the alternator, the alternator has a short,of course pull it and have it tested before replacing it.
